How come some Songs can cause you to get "Goose Bumps"?
Sometimes when I hear an awesome song it effects me emotionally and physically. Have you ever hear a song that gives you "Goose Bumps" or "Goose Pimples"? What is the explanation behind the physiological reasons for this phenomenon?
I'm not sure what the scientific explanation is, but I think it is just simply a matter of making an emotional connection to the song. It just highlights the emotional power of music.
I believe spartucusjones, has the answer, When a song gives me goose bumps it reminds me of something that had a great meaning to me in the past.
when ever I hear a song from the past it could have been a special date or past love or best friend. I love my music .. and you are right there are some songs that I just love and it makes me have goosebumps.. but that's all I know LOL
I am a recording artist, and this is a brilliant question. The answer is technical, yet mostly emotional; scientific yet fully subjective. I have no cohesive, absolute answer to this amazing question. if I had THE answer, I would have written hit after hit throughout my musical career. Why does a tear form in my eye when I hear Paul McCartney sing "The Long and Winding Road?" Partly, the answer is I was dating a VERY special girl when this song was popular, but music reaches places much deeper. The exact, right chord changes interacting with overpowering lyrics makes a magical song. I think you are asking a rhetorical question - there is NO explanation. A song must be universal in appeal - touching emotions we all feel and somehow this feeling is conveyed through musical textures and great writing. There exists NO formula for writing a song that will touch everyone; in fact, a composer is fortunate to reach 5% of his/her target audience. There are exceptions: Carol King, Jimmy Webb, McCartney/Lennon. The answer to your question is: There exists no answer. We composers write hoping to reach a universal emotion or feeling, but very, very few achieve this goal. GREAT QUESTION!

yes, songs and quotations move me...and I think it's because they touch my soul. Pachabel's Canon is the song that does that the most to me. Every time I hear it I get goosebumps and teary eyed!
Here are some of my personal reasons.
The song reminds me of something very close to my heart. The reminder's cause... well may be the song used to play when that memory creation was taking place or may be the song is new but the lyrics have a message that hits the target.
We have a lot of playback songs for movies in India. There are a few songs which are brilliantly apt for the situation. If the situation is too emotional and has appealed to me a lot, then again this song is bound to cause goosebumps.
This one's completely opposite of the first. If I'm going through a rather emotional phase - happy, sad, excited, feeling low because of a failure, or extremely elated because of a success than I might remember a suitable song to hum and then goosebumps may be due to the song or due to the already emotional mindset.
I guess that's already a long list Gr8 Question.

I know nobody else on here cares about this, but I had to share anyway... My daughter and her fiance announced their engagement awhile ago, so the fact that my only daughter (youngest child) is getting married is far from news for me. Yet..Awhile ago I just got an e.mail from my...

After an internal debate between science and philosophy I am leaning towards an answer of yes. This is due to the fact that the scientific explanation for the existence of life is greatly flawed, which leaves only one other possible solution. I usually only believe things that can be proven but...

During normal everyday life, or during a deeply enjoyable coitus ~ we feel the difference of touch: If a man touches a man, nothing happens; if a woman touches a woman, nothing happens — but if a nude man touches a nude woman, and vice verse — Behold! Fire erupts! My question is this: When we touch...
