My own; guitar strumming and singing original songs pretty much does it.

Beyond that, certain "old school" country artists, especially The Highwaymen:  Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson.

    For relaxing, that is.

For thinking?  Get music the heck away from me.  Distractions all.  Silence is golden.

Irish music relaxes me. I enjoy listening to my old middle school music to calm me down a bit or just some classics.

Classical, specifically Vivaldi's Four Seasons.  My husband puts that on whenever I get in his truck and I am immediately relaxed.

Epic, big sounds, like from a movie soundtrack get my mind churning.  Like the soundtrack from Congo, or Last of the Mohicans.

When I wrote the question, classical did not even cross my mind.  But, I must agree, I find it soothing.

Music in general relaxes me, even the aggressive stuff. To concentrate (for writing, anyway) I usually prefer something with a loud, thumping beat, either rap or metal. The faster the better, since I usually type to the beat. I usually don't hear the lyrics when I'm working, though I will catch myself singing along - badly.

Celtic Women is probably the most relaxing--the original group. There have been numerous changes and the harmonies are not the same.

After that come the girl singers, Judy Collins, Anne Murray, Judy Garland, Natalie Cole, Della Reese.

I like Celtic music, but cannot say that I own any.  Perhaps I should expand my titles.

Natalie Cole -- I'm somewhat a fan, but her father - wow.  Really enjoy his music.

Classical music like Erik Satie, Saint Saens, Chopin, and Debussy suit my melancholy moods. Handel, Hayden, Vivaldi are for more creative endeavors, and Van Morrison runs the gamut for me. I could listen to him ALL day!
