   Is the year-round school calendar more effective academically than the traditional school calendar?

   Homeschooling Year Round...  with strategic Breaks when and where the Parent sees a need for it....  Those Breaks then being used also for learning... like vacation type sightseeing and learning about the world around them...  Other than that... School is school and kids are kids... they will do whatever they are allowed to get away with.

   I don't believe that year round school is more effective.  I think children need a break and various breaks throughout the school year to be more motivated.  I don't really feel they need 3 months off, but a break is important.  I do feel that children need to be encouraged to continue to learn over the summer to keep skills fresh.  I wrote a hub on fun ways to encourage learning over the summer.  I also enjoy being able to spend the time with my children during the summer months.

   since as far as i know there is no year round schools, using personal experience is a bit difficult and as for studies, how would they know if it hasn't happened yet? all i can say is i refuse to take away my kids childhood in a quest for more education. why anyone in their right mind would want to make kids go to school all year round is beyond me.

      I tend to agree with you.. and Homeschooling offered the ideal curriculums (several are A+++) and chances to take breaks and still use them for education... Kids love it... they get to be kids... and they get to learn from everything they do...

      Hello, nightwork4. There are numerous year-round schools in my area in Phoenix, and throughout the state. It's an ongoing debate and I was curious as to what others outside my community thought.

      Need to make a point on this though... Although I consider home school best... and Homeschooling is year round by nature with breaks as the parent sees fit... I do NOT agree with Public Schooling in a Year Round format.  Kids still need to be kids.
