Ever been selected for Jury Duty? How long did you serve?
I just got selected for the first time. Darn!
I served on one jury that went to trial. It only lasted one week including deliberations. I found it to be a very interesting and educational experience.
Then I served on a grand jury for two years, but we only met about two or three times a month-- plus a few extra hours if we were on an investigative committee.
Last summer, I was actually quite excited when I received my jury summons. I considered it part of my civil duty as an American citizen. Plus I'm fond of lawyer shows and wanted to get in on some real courtroom drama!
There were about thirty people in the room, and I was prepared to stay all day. Needless to say, I was more than a little disappointed when I wasn't picked to serve on the jury. I wish I could trade places with you.
You're like my sister... she was disappointed when not picked last year. She almost asked the judge if she could get selected just for the experience!
I have served twice, I think. If no one wanted to serve we wouldn't have much of a justice system.
One time on grand jury and I think that lasted a day. One time on petit jury for a rape/aggravated assault trial. I think the trial was a day, but it seemed like a month. Other years I have had to call in every day for a week to find out whether they needed me. They didn't.
I thought that it was painless. Grand jury was fascinating and the petit jury taught me a great deal about why the accused is so often found guilty, lack of evidence notwithstanding.
I've been selected a couple of times but never served, had to check in the morning and they just made we wait in the hall for awhile and then dismissed everybody. Don't remember if was paid for showing up. But for witnesses it about $21/day plus mileage.
I was summoned to serve in a county that I had moved from. I called to tell them and they crossed me off of the list. I have not been summoned otherwise. I would be proud to serve and would have served on the other but it was over 150 miles away.
I was chosen to sit as a prospective juror for 4 days on a criminal case before being removed on a peremptory challenge. In another situation I was sworn in for the final jury and served for 8 days on a civil case in which we reached a verdict.
I was called in, but they already had the number of people they needed before they got to my name.
I was called once but I was in bed rest with my fifth child, so they excused me. Haven't been called since then.

It's my first time... for jury duty.So I was informed that I have to show up and perform my duties as a citizen and partake in jury duty. Half of me wants to back out, but I still want to see how it's like. Has anyone ever been on a jury before, and do you have any advice? Like what snacks I should...
