What are some of the stranger things that are covered by home/renter's insurance?

We all figure the building and the furniture and stuff but what are some odd things that most insurance covers that we don't think of? What about pets? Medical equipment and medicines? etc. I'm assuming we're talking about replacement-cost insurance here, too. What if the item is damaged but still partially usable?

One thing I know home owner's insurance Doesn't Cover is a bounce house rental. If you rent one, and someone gets injured, it's not covered on your homeowner's insurance. I found out the hard way. And don't be tricked if you rent one, and the company says they insure it. Most don't. Many don't because the insurance is so high to them. That's why so many fast food chains are doing away with the kids play areas. Ask for the policy showing you on it.

Fascinating. I never would have thought of it, but it does make a lot of sense. What are some other weird things like that?

If your house floods during a hurricane, and you don't have flood insurance, it's not covered. But, if a tree limb crashes thru your window and floods the house, it is covered. So all I can say is look for a tree limb! lol

Yet another example of not covered. Your cable tv isn't working.Your husband goes into the attic, bumping his head along the way. Next thing you now he fell thru the ceiling. not covered!

Hi Laura! What you are referring when you said insuring the building and furniture and stuff you're relating to the "hazard insurance". Besides the structural part of your house, the hazard part of homeowners insurance protects furnishings, personal items and possessions as well as any structure you might have in the compound like a swimming pool and a garage. The exception is when you are using these structures for non-residential functions like business or rental. So even if you're the owner of the house but you made it as a function hall for business purposes and somebody gate crashes and burns down your house, its not covered by your homeowners insurance because.. "business items are not covered" in hazard policies. Lol.

What's another odd part is that hazard insurance will also cover damages caused by your kid/family member should he or she ride a skateboard over your neighbor’s newly cemented path.

Homeowners insurance also covers "personal liability" too. For example if the paper boy is bitten by your dog, or if the mailman trips over a skateboard carelessly left on the driveway after a long summer day, your homeowners insurance will cover the victim’s medical expenses and or law suit. :-)

Frustrated with Insurers that offer no Insurance quotation or have cancelled your home insurance policy or doubling your premium because of a claim! Don't get confused I would like to suggest you to Refused House Insurance (www.refusedhouseinsurance.com) for more inforamation.
