For it to be a faith/ religion it has to be true for the individual by definition.
I believe the issue is in telling if an individuals faith is the 'Same' as another's, which is why so much importance is given to religious history, which would otherwise be pretty irelevant details.

Because every other has merely tried to copy and/or modify the original.  What was true first, will always be true because truth is the same at the beginning, the middle and at the end of time.

This is a very difficult question. It is not possible to know how much of lie is mixed in the so called truths of almost all religions of the world. Irrespective of the fact that one belongs by birth to some religion one has to have one's own beliefs and convictions which can be very personal and may deviate from the dogma or the common beliefs. These personal beliefs are between you as a soul and you personal God whom you recognize as God.

By definition, not knowing if something is "true" is what makes belief "faith" and not simply "acceptance."

If a concept is scientifically provable and doesn't require any a level of acceptance which transcends the status quo, then it doesn't require faith to believe it.  Faith is a choice made outside the purview of reason or logic.

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
This is what the ancients were commended for."
    - Hebrews 11:1-2

I am 100% sure of my religion as truth. I live it and it works for me. But given this, I never say that my religion is "the only truth"...it's a personal matter between me and my God. After all it is God I glorify in my religion and so I respect and honor all his creatures especially human. Faith/religion is an "imputed" human experience, meaning it is not us to choose God but He chooses us.. I respect other religion and I don't impose. I don't broadcast voluntarily about my religion, I live and model it so that only sincere people would be curious about my religion.
This is an inspiring question...an idea occurred in me just now. I might write about how I live my religion and why I say it works for me.
    Great question.
