Are you sharing to much online information with others about yourself?
I personally don't care if someone washes their hair at 3 o'clock! Why do people think others want to know every trivial detail of their life!
I´m not on facebook or anything like that, as I don´t like the idea of it. I am happy to correspond on hub pages, and do feel I have made some friends here. Because a lot of what I write about is personal experience it´s hard not to reveal information about myself. But I have always been an open book anyway.
Although I am not a Facebook fan per se, I have been enticed into it by personal and online friends. It has become a mecca for business networking, too. As such, I believe most online users, eventually are drawn into the social media sites. At the time of my layoff, I was advised by the agency helping me find another job, to be very circumspect about what I share, as today, employers "google" potential new hires for information that can enhance or destroy job opportunities. On the local news today, an IT expert advised all social media participants to think of their webpage friends as gathered together in a large auditorium and only reveal what you are comfortable with the entire group knowing. The expert also advised never revealing someone's elses personal confidences. It is only the right of the individual to share as they see fit. Another suggestion relates to photographs, in that it is advisable to always wait before posting any photos, giving the decision at least an hour, rather than hastily publishing something that can't be taken back. It doesn't seem that this basic, obvious advise should have to come from an expert, but apparently "thinking before acting" continues to be our own worst enemy.
I'm on Facebook but I tend to keep my "updates" as silly/random as possible. I only update my "status" once every couple of days, and even then, most of the time I use quotes from movies, or snippets of song lyrics. I do not understand what compels some people to update their status every hour on the hour with run-downs of everything they're doing. I really don't care if you're eating tacos, or you just took a shower, or what you're watching on TV.
Hi, rutley and no. Only 6 people in all of the online social and non-social networks know anything about me. But then again, with me, there is nothing really controversial to know. Rats!
You and me both! I write about my personal experiences but no one knows who I really am! Do you think rutley is my real name?
I don't share much on Facebook, but I do share in my writing because a lot of it is personal experience. But my life is not exciting enough to share...haha, so I don't worry about it!
I am on Facebook but I don't put too many personal items on there, but I do post my hubs. Some people reveal a lot about themselves on Hubpages and it often helps other people. for instance, dealing with a specific disease can be helpful to those that are also suffering. Others share a lot about their personal lives and I think it is an individual choice. I am probably more concerned now that I was a few years ago and wonder if I should have shared less.
People are always curious about others therefore reading those info online give them some forms of answers.
We are living world apart and when people start to write about their activities online, it is like sharing what you are doing. If others find it interesting, they may follow. This is just gossip news as people are simply curious.
Yes, I do believe we share too much information. It makes me kind of sad to give so much information on one account. So I spread it across a number of accounts.

Is it worth it to have Facebook Friends, or is it a joke?Do you think most Facebook friends are honest about themselves to you as you write them for longer stretches of time?

Do you think placing your photo online is risky?Awhile back I learned that when your photo is online, there is technology available now that can gather highly personal information with it, such as your social security number, etc. It's even worse if you use your real name with it. Many...

Sometimes I have to slap myself around a bit...I'm a poet, and I have some work that I am very proud of...but when it comes to sharing my work, online, or simply giving someone a poem of mine to read, I get all weird and uncomfortable about it, like I feel that at the very least they won't know how...

I think it would be useful to have a column added to the statistics page that shows the total number of shares for each hub (Tweets and Facebook likes). There is not enough room to add two columns. So this could be a sum of all tweets and all Facebook likes in one column labeled "Shares"....
