Should Ron Paul run as an independent?
This man has a huge following and nothing to loose. Should he run as an independent in the 2012 election? It may show the "parties" that other contenders are out there and capable of delivering "real change".
The trouble with that is most people feel that if you vote for Ron Paul then you waste a vote against the candidate that you may really not want to have in there. So a lot of people would rather vote for a less liked candidate then chance getting some one in they really dislike.
I agree with you, but I do believe that many of his followers would vote regardless. Even if an independent candidate took 10% of the vote it would stir up Washington.
I thought he was an independent. Yeah he should but I don't think he wins
It is probably best for the Country overall if Ron Paul chooses not to run, but instead trades his endorsement of Romney for Republican support of key elements of the Paul platform. Politics may not work like that anymore, but this year more than any, it appears imperative for the Country to Unite behind a single candidate.
If he was that popular then he would have beat Romney for the nomination. He consistently came in last in most states. His popularity is internet based, not reality based. With that said, I don't care if he does run as an independent. I would rather see a more mainstream candidate run as an independent that actually has a chance at making a race against the two big money candidates. Im not sure who that person should be, but I bet that there is some eccentric billionaire out there. RuPaul comes off as the crazy uncle that wants to legalize dope for most people. It would be hard for him to gain any traction now. Everyone already knows who he is, and America has decided that we do not like him.
I don't think he should be running at all. He has a miniscule following compared to the major candidates. Having nothing to lose, is not a valid reason for running.
His political platform aside, I fail to see why anyone would vote for a man so old he probably would not live through a term. So, you have to look instead at the running mate...and ask yourself if you want THAT person to be the president...because that's what would happen.
So, all he's really doing, is acting as a "spoiler" and making the vote split more complicated than it needs to be.

Perhaps Iowa can help a candidate gain some momentum or conversely lose momentum. But in the grand scheme of things Does Iowa Really Matter to U.S. Presidential Politics? It is not a large or diverse state, and does not represent voting patterns very well. What do you think?
