How are you going to get through this weeks heatwave in the Northeastern United States?
Every summer it gets real hot where I live so I am used to avoiding the hot weather by staying inside for most of the day in the air conditioning. Actually it is the humidity that makes it feel really hot outside. On the weekends I will limit my time to a few hours and drink plenty of water, and try to stay in the shade.
The kids and family are going to spend time with auntie who has a pool. We purposely did not buy a house with a pool so we would not have to worry about kids getting hurt or worse. But we have no problem going to visit either my sister or my sister-in-law to get cool in the water. I think I will also cancel the night time Zumba classes since no one wants to come workout in the heat. Besides that, I will try to keep everyone indoors and try out some of the homemade ice cream recipes or the ones for making ice pops.
I have lived in Louisiana for a long time, so I am used to it.....
I don't even know. The hot and humid weather has ventured north of the border too. The "humidex", a number based on actual temperature and relative humidity, is forecast to be 44°C or 111.2°F here tomorrow afternoon. Ugh...
Sounds like the NE is in for a nice week. I just checked the forecast for New York and it looks like it's going to hit a high of 99*. Pretty average for summer months where I'm from. I like to get out and do some fishing or swimming in the lake when the weather is real nice like that.
Well nowadays, if I was still in New York, I would have air conditioning and maybe go to the pool.
Or you could do it old school with an oscillating fan, blowing hot air in your face.
No problem, I live in the Southeastern part of the U.S.
But, I hope everyone in the Northeast has great A/C
By being careful to guard against spending prolonged periods of time outside, in the heat, working, or otherwise, without drinking enough liquids to avoid dehydration. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, in order to help yourself and others avoid these problems.
Take care of your pets also. Your plants, especially those that are outside, will need special care (enough water in particular).
This advice will help you some.

Dr. Haddox
