Any tips for running in humid conditions?

I moved recently from living near the sea, where I always had the cool sea breeze to keep me cool, to living in the middle of Europe and it's hot! I'm having trouble running for any period of time here as I find it hard to catch my breath and I often end up feeling sick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I lived for 10 years on a small tropical island where it was not only hot, but incredibly humid. So, first of all, you will get used to the humid conditions eventually. I don't mean you will get to a point where you don't notice the heat, you will just find it is easier to run in it.

For the time being, I would suggest you run in the early morning or later evening. The temp/humidity won't be as bad as during the day.

Finally, keep running! But go for shorter distances and listen to your body. Also drink lots of water or sports drinks.

Thanks for your advice! I have been trying to run in the mornings and evenings but I prefer to run with my boyfriend and he works strange hours. Guess I'll have to start running without him if I want to keep it up!

Living in the tropics here, Internpete's excellent answer is what I did to get used to exercising down here. Keep hydrated as well!

There are many factors to consider; if you are in a big city, you might have to consider the timing, avoid crowded streets with lots of traffic, - car exhaust could be a big problem, find some parks where is more greenery and so is more oxigen.
Redesign your running habits with a new pattern, limitation on how long the runs should be, the time of the day and location as well. Stay hydrated!

Thanks for your advice! We're lucky enough to have quite a large forest in the city where we live, so I don't think it's car exhaust fumes that's the problem but I'll bear it in mind!
