   How can we get our neighbour to play the audio - video systems at low volume?
   
   What can we do if inspite of repeated requests our neighbour does not oblige to lower the volume of the audio visual equipments? This is in India and we cannot go to Police as in some Western countries.

   Either turn yours up higher than theirs, or call the noise pollution police.  Either should be effective enough.  L.O.L. 
   It is extremely difficult to make people understand and adopt the concept of consideration and kindness in a world of self serving and indifference.

   Go knock on their door and ask them politely if they can turn it down. Invite them over to your house so they can hear how loud it is. Tell them you understand they want  to get the full use of their sound system, but it is causing some discomfort for you.
   
   If they do not respond positively, they you have to contact the authorities and ask if they can patrol the area one night (if it is a nightly occurrence) without you having to file a complaint.
   
   If the police just passing by say they could hear the noise in the squad car and give them a warning, you might stop the problem, if the first approach does not work.

      Thanks Larry Wall. I have tried talking to them. In India, the police squad won't do anything unless u approach them with a complaint.
