Parents: When your child has an accident does he/she get punished?
My daughter (3) has accidents in her bed. Not all the time but every once in awhile. She doestn't go to timeout unless she pees, and hides her underwear. At that point she goes to timeout. We never spank.
No, I never punished my children when they had accidents. It is a learning process. Some children take longer than others when potty training. Sometimes a harsh discipline may hurt the child more than teach them. This could create more problems trying to potty train.
If the child is playing and says they were to busy to get up and go to the bathroom, I would say yes to a timeout. Sometimes children get to much of into what they are doing they forget to go to the bathroom and wet their pants.
There is no need for spanking if what he or she did was not intentional. African values don't tolerate children being a deliberate wreak. If his excessive actions are not checked the parents will pay for it at the end of the day.
Again, my daughter has never been spanked. Just timeouts. I was just wondering what others have done
I am not mad that she peed her bed its going to happen. She just recently stopped wearing pull-ups.
It is unacceptable to hide wet underwear and if she comes to me I will give her a shower and have a normal morning.
No, or course not. Children at that age have very unpredictable bladders and urges. Just gently remind her every hour or so to use the bathroom, and make sure she does. She is likely hiding her wet panties because she gets in trouble or feels shame over wetting herself. If she has an accident, just be casual and say, - oops, let's get some fresh pants for you. That way she will be comfortable admitting to you that she made a mistake.
At this age it is our responsibility to remind them, or walk them to the toilet at appropriate intervals. I applaud your decision not to spank. We did not spank our children and they turned in to lovely adults.
Also use those night time pull ups for kids that age. That way if there is an accident, you don't have to change the bed. My granddaughter used them until she was about 5, then outgrew the need.
I would tread very carefully. There are a lot of problems connected with improper potty training. Not to scare you, I'm sure you're fine, you know your child better than anyone else. I think that she will stop regardless of what you do or don't do but maybe it would be better to avoid the issue altogether and just put Pull-ups on her at night until she is confident she can wake up to go. My mother,s attitude was "They'll figure it out by the time they go to High School"...you gotta' love the classic wisdom.
I recently started potty training my twins so I'm learning to be patient with accidents. My step-daughter, however, was 7 or 8 when she had her last accident. I was furious at that time because I knew she was intentionally holding going to the restroom and at that age I felt she was old enough to know better. It would be much different for a child who is 3 I think. I would never punish them. They are bound to have accidents as they are still learning to control their bladder.

My son was punished by his father for wetting his pants by "squeezing his penis really hard."...Would you agree that this is abuse? I know every parent will eventually overreact to something their child has done in negative way; I dont think this is just a case of yelling or spanking over...

At what age will you let your child go into a public restroom alone?I am a mother of a 12 year old son and I am very nervous about mall safety. I don't allow him to go to the bathroom on his own. When he is in there on his own, I have no idea what is happening.

Anyone who attended Catholic schools can attest to the discipline, sometimes harsh, that they received from the nuns and priests. One man informed me that in his high school, the priests or brothers will regularly hit him for a minute infraction. A woman I know relayed to me...

How to get my 3 yr old daughter to stop peeing her pants? My 3 year old has understood the concept of using the potty for about 2 months now, but still has at the very least one accident every day. Sometimes she does try to make it to the potty but she isn't fast enough, this I can understand. But...

Here's the link. Rather shocking, since Jesus supposedly is the "Prince of Peace." However, it seems to be consistent with the general temperature and climate of the religion forums here:http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/bo … -to-censor

Do you think that children should be potty trained before 2?I am concerned that children are being allowed to wear diapers longer and longer. In my opinion potty training is best done early as a natural part of taking care of one's body to promote self esteem. Pampers and Huggies are...
