Should there be a law making English the official language for schools and government printing?

As far as I'm concerned, there doesn't need to be a law because English is THE language of the country in which I live.  Having said that, I have no problem with the practice of having other languages on government material in order to accommodate those who can't understand English well enough. Since there is no law against non-English-speaking people coming into the country (legally, anyway), I see no reason why the government shouldn't try to be helpful to anyone who struggles with English.  (Melting pot, and all that....)

English is the official language of India, but talk so fast - it's hard to understand for someone in the states.

I think it's a state thing and not a federal thing. Before the nation of Hawai'i was taken over by the USA, it had a 90% literacy rate .... in the Hawaiian language. I think it is the only state with two official languages English & Hawaiian.

I'm sure you are thinking of Spanish, the Southwest belonged to Mexico before entering the USA, therefore since the majority of the people were Spanish speaking  at the time then Spanish should not banned.

Everyone has a right to communication with their own government.  That's why there is braille signs for the blind -although I think is pretty damn stupid to but a braille sign far away from the door - they are blind - how would they find out where the stupid sign is?

"Already we are seeing increased attempts by the Federal government to accommodate non-English speakers by printing Federal documents in
languages other than English. ... The cost associated with accommodating
each of the more than 300 languages spok
