   Can you tell what breeds our mutt Sekhmet is?
   
   We've been trying to guess, but I thought you might have a better "guess" since you obviously have more experience with this.

   I'm going to guess that your cute baby is a mixture of boxer and retriever.    Have you asked your Vet for his expert opinion?

      yes, and he wasn't sure lol, He though black mouth cur and wasn't sure what else. She does like to go after bears, which is what black mouth cur's were bred for.

   Do you know there are DNA tests for dogs? They are supposed to be able to tell you if an individual has DNA similar to a certain breed(s). Is it worth it? I dont think so. Sekhmet looks like a good dog, no matter what! If anyone asks, tell them he is an Egyptian tomb hound, specially developed to search for sites in the Valley of the Dead! (And chase Egyptian bears...Wait a minute, there are no Egyptian bears. How about ghosts?)
   (Did you read the new herbal heartworm article I published? I thought you would be interested, but the monthly ivermectin still seems like a superior option for safe heartworm treatment. Leave me a comment if you get a chance.)

      lmao, you know sekhmet can see spirits, and is a bit telepathic. I like Egyptian tomb hound She's a very sweet puppy, we're more curious than anything.
      
      I was just about to go read that article! I'm quite curious what herb(s) is being used!

   What is the weight and age? Does it have webbed feet? Does it have any hereditary behavior such as herding? Does it have a ridge of fur on its back? Does anything else stand out?

      She's about 80lbs, no webbed feet, she ferociously goes after bears, she only has a ridge of fur when she's barking at a bear, and it's a distinctive ridge, never seen it quite that pronounced on a dog, VERY muscular, this dog is a powerhouse.

      Possibly part Ridgeback. Not all have a line of fur that grows the opposite way, but when it stands up, it really shows. Ridgebacks are also known for not being completely pure. (floppy ears)
      
      Cur comes to mind, too.
      
      Lab maybe but not my 1st guess.

      We actually suspect she'd at least part black mouth cur because of her reaction to bears (and we have quite a few). I didn't think about a ridgeback I'll have to pay attention next time her fur stands up! lol

      I agree, I liked his idea too, and I think her tail looks a bit like an Akita, but I'm not sure. She's a beautiful dog too, very well built, you don't feel like your going to break her if you wrestle. Hence her name, Sekhmet, Lady of Strength.

   I'm not much of a dog person, so this is mostly just guessing, but my initial reaction was Rhodesian Ridgeback. Primarily based on the forehead and face. The tail seems unusual to me. I don't recall seeing many dogs that size with a non-bushy sickle tail. Maybe Anatolian Shepherd. That would make for a nice combination, I think.

      when i first saw the pic of the dog my guess was also Rhodesian Ridgeback from what i learned from watching DOGS 101 and the little bit i knew too just being the incurable dog lover that i am thats what he is, beautiful animal no matter what breed

   Your dog may be a mix of Rhodesian Ridgeback or Vizsla and possibly German Shepherd.

   I know several Lab / Chow mixes that look similar to that as well as Chow / Golden mixes or sometimes a Shar Pei in the mix. I can see some of those characteristics here as well. Rhodesian Ridgeback also comes vaguely to mind. She's a beautiful girl.
   
   Someone mentioned canine DNA testing but I wouldn't put too much stock in it quite yet. The results are often hilarious when the breed(s) of the dog is already known with an absolute certainty.
   
   It works for tracking lines and parentage as the testing is different but the 'what is my breed' thing is still usually more for entertainment value for the moment.

      My wife, Kat, the dog lover, says she sees Shar Pei mix and/or Basenji breed.  How is her bark? The reason we ask is because the Basenji is a 'barkless' dog.  They are more likely to communicate with yips and Grrrs than barks. Hope this helps.

      She barks constantly actually. She has a very strong, menacing bark that scares even our landlord lol I thought she looked a bit Shar Pei as well.

      I'm sure we'll never know with certainty what her breed is, but it's fun to guess. She is a gorgeous dog, and VERY affectionate. Unfortunately, she has some anxiety issues due to prior mistreatment, but she's safe now.
