Do you employ dog whisperer tips for your dog training ?
I think the Dog Whisperer ( Cesar Millan ) is one of the most successful dog trainers of our time. Given a chance would you hire him to train your dog? Since not all of us can hire him due to geographical and possibly financial limitations, would you employ his techniques in training your dog?
I would not hire him nor would I let him within 30 feet of my dog.
CM uses punishment based training to train dogs. It's the same sort of training I did 35 years ago. REALLY old school. He's just re-wrapped it to sell to an unsuspecting audience.
His stuff is just reheated Kohler method.
The modern positive reinforcement methods have been scientifically proven to be a better way to train. I use mostly positive methods to get my dogs to work for me. As I have used by the old stuff taught by CM and the new positive methods, I can tell you I will never go back to the sad, old methods.
Google CM. Read around. You'll see that dog training academia poo-poos Mr. Milan and claims, IMO rightfully so, tht he has set dog training back 20 years.
In my own dog training school, I have seen dogs ruined by CM's methods. These dogs were forever emotionally scared by following CM and using FAR too much punishment. It's very sad.
Watch this video. You'll see CM kick dogs over and over to get them to "react" for TV. These dogs should be rewarded for NOT reacting. Instead, he causes them to react. It's really quite sick. And unfortunately, people who do not understand dog behavior miss the obvious kick - something I saw on one of the first videos I ever saw of CM. The dog was walking politely by his said, passed another dog without reacting and in fact showing positive, happy signs. So what did CM do? Kicked it. Yeah. I'd react too. With a cattle prod used on Mr. CM.
Here's a video. Be aware... It's hard to watch.

Absolutely not. His methods are outdated. He has no formal dog training education. While I agree with his emphasis on EXERCISE for your dog, I don't agree with anything else. I prefer a relationship with my dog based on positive experiences rather than a dominance based relationship where my dog is fearful of me or my reactions to their behavior.

Check out my hubpage on different training methods and why CM methods are not the best
I agree completely Cathy. I'll check out your hub. I just published a hub on finding a dog trainer, and while I don't mention CM directly, his methods are hinted at in the hub. http://agilitymach.hubpages.com/hub/The … ok-for-in-

Our dog is very happy, but then he's allowed to do what he wants. Do you believe in dog training?
