At what point do you think you actually knew what you were meant to do in life and what is it?

Are you there yet, or still working on it?

I'm retired and I am only just realising what is I was "meant" to do. Not, it isn't rest all the time, nor is it being a granny all the time (though that takes up quite a bit of time). It is researching. That is what I have always loved to do but it always took a back seat to all the other things I had to do in my life. Now, I am trying to do as much of it as I can.

How interesting! Are you researching any particular subject nowadays?

Bravo for you. It wasn't until I started writing for sites like this that I realised how interesting research can be. All the best to you.

My search continues.I am still open to suggestions since everything I have tried has not developed into what I thought it would be after reasonable time and effort..But I am one step closer because I know what I am not good at and off to find something that works.

You already do so many things stupendously that you probably don't even realize, like writing sensational poetry.  I think we are always searching for more until we realize it's actually right inside us the whole time  It It will come

At 16, I knew I wanted to be a psychologist. I have been in the mental health field now for over 25 years. In gradeschool, I knew I loved to write. I've been writing poetry since then, and articles as an adult, on and off. It wasn't until I joined hubpages 4 weeks ago that it became official that I can now add "writer" to my resume. If we are patient and persistent, all of our intentions will come to pass in their own time and we will embrace God's purpose for us with zeal. Am I completely there yet? No way, still a work in progress but loving the journey.

What an admirable profession, especially these days.  You are so right that it will come in time and it is an ongoing journey to be embraced and loved.  Thank you

A woman at the age of 50 begins to analyze the past, present and the coming future. At this point i am evaluating my life's achievements, what i did, what i have, where i failed, what i miss, what to do to make things better for me, for my family,

As a woman i was meant to be a mother of 2 children and a good wife. To care for my children and family. The point that i have everything i want, a family, a home.

As a nurse i realize i have to go on working and that even more than for the last years, and this was something i miss for the past years that i know now what i want.

It must be a 50 thing because that's when I started taking a very hard look at the real me.  Thanks and what a delight to be a mom, good wife, and a nurse too.

One part of this - that I wanted to be a writer - I knew when I was eight, and it is still unfolding. My non-fiction career is where I want it to be. My spiritual writing and fiction lie ahead.

The other major dimensions of my life unfolded later - deepening Zen practice and beginning to explore the wonders of qigong.

Oh child it took forever! It wasn't till I was about 43 that I realized I was supposed to be exactly what I was, a teacher. Only now with my new enlightenment, I knew I had to be one which instilled hope and motivation. Every day is a challenge in that respect; how do you give hope to people on a sinking vessel?

I so admire you for being a teacher and trying to instill that hope and motivation that so many children desperately need.  Thank you for all you do!!!

Great questions, which are themselves useful. Look at what they brought out from people. Clearly you were meant to ask them.

Me? Pushing 60 and have not had a moment where I "knew what I was meant to do in life." Early in life I was a truth seeker. Later, in jobs and career, I was a niche seeker. The aha! moment came when I realized I am not "meant to do" anything. I am meant to be.

Doing actually gets in the way of being. Goal setting gets in the way of living. It is not 'what' I do, but how I do it - rather than Exert Power, Emanate Presence.

Being present also means growing in self-awareness and self-responsibility. It means being aware of my shadows to dissolve them and allowing my highest true nature to manifest through me. When I am fully present, I am fulfilling my purpose.

That is amazing, in that a question Garfalia just asked both SidKemp and I commented about inventories and authors (it must be that time of year)  It's all about the journey and the impact we leave on others as we move on.  Thanks and great answer

I'm working on this right now. I am currently a pre-school teacher without a desire to work with kids anymore. Really trying to search and be open to where my true path lies.

There are many tools to help in this search. I like The Artists Way, What Color is Your Parachute, and the & Habits of Highly Effective People.
