   I've had all sorts of pets during my life time, and still do, but I'm definitely a cat person.  Cats fit better in my lifestyle than other animals.  They offer love and affection, but they let you have some alone time as well.

   I love dogs bit I'm more of a cat person because of there personality types and how funny they can be, plus there easy to litter train.

   I do so like a cat.......especially bigger, aggressive ones.................they, as a species are among my favored animals.    I would prefer to have a panther over the largeset, meanest, most  protective dog.    Oh, yeah, a panther, mountain lion, or other large cat would shake a dog..........to his fears.
   
   Dogs help to herd the livestock...........so on the farm, there were dogs.
   People take dogs to the park........so I had a dog.
   Children, more often ask for a puppy, rather than a kitten......so we had a dog.
   
   
   I, do like dogs, and some of those in my lifetime, have become very valued in my life.   
   
   Taking a dog from his puppy days, providing for him, teaching him, having him defend  you and your property..............yes, bonds are built.   And there are 2-3 dogs, that I have openly GRIEVED over, and several that I recall, and a few that I truly miss.  One or two of them, stand out and can never be replaced, simply by having another dog.
   
   But, I YEARN to have a big cat, standing at my ready.......stalking a German Shepard, or Rotteweiler..............well, no, it is not that I wish for a cat to attack a dog..................I simply mean...........there is NO contest between what we think is a big dog, and a wild cat.     The wild cat ( lion, panther, bobcat, cougar)  will prevail against the greatest of the domesticated dog.
   
   This is not the cat, that you want among your children or nearby neighbors.  So, to date, I have not yet had one.
   
   But, in my dreams.........with a big cat on the leash.......no one dares to attempt to bring me harm.

   The cliche that dog is man's best friend is probably the only cliche founded in logic and research. Dogs will definitely be your best friends. We have three. One idolizes my wife. Another has taken on the assignment of protector for my son and the third comes to me when I am having a bad day. All they ask in return is to be fed, given their shots, treated with respect and loved. I have known many people and I have not liked. I never met a dog I did not like. Granted, they expect more attention than cats, but a dog will stay in your fenced yard. Cats do not always realize how good they have it and will forever be jumping that fence to see what is on the other side.

   I am more a non-mammal, non-avian pet owner. Birds are very messy, very loud, and very finicky. Mammals smell, require mental stimulation, and shed constantly. I prefer mammals any day over birds (I own a dog and will always have at least one by my side), but reptiles is where it's at as far as the perfect pet goes, in my opinion.
   
   Reptiles are quiet, clean, beautiful, and they mind their own. They don't need walks, they don't need play time, and their requirements as very simple. They hardly take up any room in your house at all, either. Even the biggest reptiles in the world need less care than a dog would! Snakes only eat once a week, and offering quality food to them is a lot easier than choosing between 5 million brands of dog food for your Pomeranian.
