   Have your teenage children had to get job to help with household finances because of the economy?
   
   One of the hardest things I have ever had to do was ask my 16 year old son to give up his paycheck to help pay household bills rather than spending it on things that "normal" 16 year old teens get to buy. Has anyone else had to do anything like this?

   no one i know has but that doesn't mean it isn't happening. in Canada, our economy is in much better shape then in the U.S., so i doubt it happens a lot here other then when the parents are useless. it sucks though when i hear things like this happening anywhere and i feel for you . i hope things get better for you and your family.i know it would be so hard for me to do what you had to do.

   I dont have any children that are old enough to take on a job. but my husband has had to take on couple of jobs to help make the ends meet. The biggest thing that i have done to help teach our children that things dont come free is to teach them how to use coupons and not to waste anything. If i think that they are being wasteful it comes out of their piggy bank money. Needless to say the only child that currently has money is our 2 yo and i counted it this morning and he had $14 and some change. and the two older children have i owe yous in theirs.

      i was working a couple of jobs, but i am currently unemployed. as for the IOU's in the piggy bank consider having them donate (or sell) some of their things to pay off that debt. nothing like teaching them real life lesson in financial responsibility

      i like the idea of having them sell some of their stuff, but i dont have the time or the patience to organize a yard sale, so i bag it up and donate it to the local charity.
