Hurricane Sandy tore through the Eastern part of the United States... How did you weather the storm?

What are your experiences during hurricane Sandy whether first hand or from something you've heard or seen?

I live in Baltimore, Maryland and I am happy to say Sandy has gone away now.  There was some flooding around me, but mostly, I had to deal with wind and leaks.  I live in a highrise apartment building and the wind was really awful.  My windows, AC/heating unit, and ceiling leaked.  I am so happy to see Hurricane Sandy leave!  It could have been a lot worse though, so I am grateful to still have power and happy my friends and family are OK.

Weathered the storm well, was expecting much worse in the city. I live in the NE section of Washington at the MD border and only got the winds and rain. The power flickered but never went out, thank God. However, there are other sections of DC that fared much worse, eg, trees down, flooding, and power outages. Areas in MD and VA within 5 to 10 miles from me got hit much worse. My heart and prayers goes out to those in NYC and NJ, whose plight compares to no one elses. May God bless them and keep them.

My house in Staten Island, NYC was fine but a lot of neighborhoods lost power and were badly flooded. Houses damaged. Cars damaged or floated away. Tunnels and streets flooded. The water is so deep people swimming on the streets or on boats. Some people killed or injured. Transportation shut down and many people can't get to work and can't work because of power outage. Lots of damage in every borough. If there is ever a tsunami that comes our way all of NYC will be wiped out for sure.
