Do you like carpet, wood, or tile floors and which one do you think is more practical and sanitary?

Or are you like some people and like tile for certain areas like the kitchen and bath, then carpet in the bedrooms?

I definitely prefer carpet, however tile is probably much more sanitary.

I prefer carpet for the feel, but properly sealed tile and varnished wood look nicer and are more sanitary as long as you keep them clean.

I love wood flooring in the majority of the house and tile in the bathrooms and laundry room. Carpet traps so much dirt, dust (along with dust mites), hair, etc. As we've converted to more wood flooring and less carpet, we've noticed that my husband's sneezing attacks lessened.

I think that carpet is a definite haven for mites, etc and think it is a definite benefit when it comes to allergies as you said.

Either tile or wood would be fine with me. I really hate carpet. It is a hassle to clean it and you can never get it completely sanitary. It traps so much dust and bacteria. I know that I can wipe my tile with bleach and it is germ free. Carpets? Even a steam cleaner leaves them damp, and damp invites mildew.

I conceded with my husband to leave the bedroom carpet, but we have agreed to have hard floors in the rest of the house.

I am with you on the carpet never being sanitized and the bacteria.  I have pulled up a few when moving into a new house and could not believe the dirt trapped underneath.  Yucccck  Wood is my favorite even the tile that looks like wood

Wood is my favorite. Soothing colors, enjoyable feel, more homely, etc.

It's my favorite for the same reasons. Just something about it makes you feel cozy, at home, and warm.

Oh this one is easy for me, I hate carpet. Rugs can be flipped clean out of doors and tossed in the wash or sent to the cleaners for cleaning. And wood is sooo pretty to wax up nicely, makes any space look nicer.  Carpet just sits there day after day, even carpet cleaning is questionable, even if you have a good carpet cleaning machine. It's the padding and floor beneath - tis mysterious and can't be all that clean forever!
