Are you afraid to stay in a hotel with key-card doors due to easy entry by thieves these days?
Thieves are now able to gain entry into key-card hotel room doors around the world using a small device available on the net. Holiday Inn is working on the problem, but what about the other hotels?
No -I wouldnt stress about it - We don't stay in many hotels as don't like them much . I would prefer a cabin with a verander in a park as they are much nicer .
Aside from the coded door locks there are other locks in place to keep intruders out, like chains and slide bolts, so I wouldn't be too worried.
Using the other locks on the doors would make me feel safe enough when in the room. I always be sure to take my valuables with me when leaving the room. Most Hotels have a safe available either in the rooms or at the front desk to protect valuables as well. The higher floors make me feel safer too because it would seem that a thief wouldn't want to be in the building any longer than necessary and waiting for elevators or climbing flights of stairs exposes them to other patrons and potential witnesses.
Conservative Lady,
You're right the deadbolt and the chain will certainly help, and using the safe is a good idea. It would only be a problem if you purchased large items that won't fit in a safe, and you didn't have locks on your luggage. Lisa
to me it is irrelevant. if thieves want into your room, they will get in. i'd be more worried about bed bugs.
nightwork4,
Thanks. I guess it's all part of traveling.
Lisa
I agree bed bugs and the dirt/virus contamination that has recently been flagged by the CBC.
try to think of the good side of traveling. forget the negative stuff and it's all good.
It is unbelieveable that we create things that can do harm to others. I hadn't heard about this particular item until now. I always use the chain and deadbolt and won't worry about it. That being said there are countries and places where I make sure not to take valuables.
When I travel I carry a wood wedge for the door. In addition to the lack of security with electronic locks and chains, this simple wedge provides a level of security that requires a lot of force and noise to defeat.

Do you personally tip the maids when you stay in a hotel?Growing up, I only saw my parents do it once, so I came to believe that it wasn't necessary or customary. However, as a young adult who now stays in hotels herself, I am doing research on it. According to TripAdvisor, in the US, $2-5 is...
