   Not in the sense of terror or horror. Never!
   
   "Fear" is a loose translation into English.
   
   What we need to give God is perfect Love, awe and respect. He is, after all, more powerful than the entire universe and the owner of the same.
   
   God wants us to be fearless. That's inherent in the nature of faith, and without faith, we cannot please God.

   Fear as in respect, and humble yourself before Him. Not to be afraid of him, like terror. For if you are a believer, you have nothing to fear--God forgives you for your sins (given that you are repentant) and grants you eternal life, as long as you respect Him, follow him, and acknowledge that he sacrificed His son to pay for everyone's sins.

   The fear of the Lord is the beggining of knowledge: fools despise wisdom and instruction. Prov.1:7
   
   It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Heb 10:31
   
   Vengence is mine declares the Lord.
   If we do not know this fear we would surly then trample underfoot the Son of God and regard as unclean the blood of the covenant by which Christ was sanctified, and insult the Spirit of Grace.
   
   But we are to come boldly and fearlessly before the throne of Grace.
   
   There is a difference in these two. Because we know that Christ has died for our sins and we are Children of God we can then come before the throne, Boldly to Him. But without having the fear of the Lord, we would continue to live in a manner unfitting of a Child of the King. We will Pay for the good and the bad we have done in our life, but as a Child of God we have faith and know that we will not suffer the second death.

   I realize that "fear" has a pretty wide range of interpretations in the English language, but I have never been able to reconcile the idea that "God is Love" with the idea that we should "FEAR God."
   
   By extension, that means we're being taught that "love" is something we should FEAR. I can't get that to work for me...
   
   I also realize there's a school of thought that humans are only "civilized" by virtue of the flimsiest reasons... and these people believe that if there was no God to "fear," society would degenerate into a free-for-all anarchy mess where people would just do "whatever they wanted." I just don't buy that... I think that's just an excuse from those unwilling to accept personal responsibility for their actions in life. I believe humans are more naturally inclined to naturally "get along" (the biological maxim of "safety in numbers") than they are to "behave badly." But hey, that's just my OPINION.... ;-)
