If you oppose same sex marriage, what justification do you have for condemning

I get that the bible says it's a sin, but people are not putting gay people to death (mostly) in society today.  I want to know why YOU oppose it - an actual reason and not the interpretation of a several-thousand year old holy book - or the fact that you personally think it's "icky"

First of all, the bible says many things are a sin.  Second of all, people ARE being put to death for it around the world.

That's why I said "mostly".  In Africa and a lot of the middle east, it is still considered a crime punishable by death.

The ability to get married for anyone is a civil right. It is not a matter of "taste" or "the bible." When marriage was converted into a legal binding contract recognized by law, representative of rights, property, and possessions, it became a LEGAL and CIVIL right that everyone is entitled to, regardless of who marries.

What's most interesting to me about this subject is how people think in the moral sense and not the legal sense. Maybe I'm wrong, but two people can marry(commit to each other for life) without recognition from the state. The point of interest is a binding legal contract. Isn't that right? And if that is, doesn't it come down to allowing any two adult citizens to enter into a legally binding contract. It seems ridiculous to confuse this with morality or christianity or whatever religion you are. But to answer your question, their is no justification for condemning same sex marriage. There is however biblical justification for condemning homosexuality in general, and as christianity is the religion of most Americans, it is quite obvious why they oppose it. But I don't think they ever give deep thought to what it really means. One other thought. If you tamper with the definition of marriage, can't that include marriage contracts between multiple individuals? It seems that it could become a little confusing.

People have been tampering with the definition of marriage for centuries.

The discrimination against businesses that wish to decline business with which they disagree, as observed in European nations that have already passed these laws.
    Real world examples today:
    * Churches forced to stop renting out facilities to weddings after refusing to rent out the facility to a same sex civil union. Yet they'd have the right to refuse service if Muslims or Buddhists wished to rent the space.
    * A Christian counselor in training, who was black, was denied her degree after referring a same-sex couple that came in for relationship counseling. She said she could not in conscience counsel them, so she referred them to someone who could counsel them without violating their rights. She received a cash settlement from the school, but not a degree. Yet she would have been doing them a disservice for counseling them half-heartedly.
    * Photographers sued for declining to photograph same sex couple unions and bakeries sued for not giving civil union cakes - and forced to pay money for discrimination. Yet a black owned bakery that declined to do business with whites wouldn't be sued OR face civil penalties.
Giving homosexuals equal legal protections for "marriage" leads to legal abuse of those who oppose it for religious reasons, as we have already seen in the US and Europe. There are even religious leaders in Northern Europe and elsewhere seeing their freedom of religion and speech denied under "hate speech" laws for saying what their religions have said for 2000 years.

when a business owner disobeys a law where their business is located, they SHOULD face penalties.  Discrimination is supposed to be against the law, and i have no problem with discrimination being legally punished.

I honestly don't know why this is even an issue. We have no control over who another person loves or wants to spend the rest of their life with. What goes on in another person's house is none of my business. Your life is yours to live how you choose as long as you aren't hurting another person or infringing on their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness .
Sure one can spout sections from the bible claiming something is a sin. However the bible also states something along the lines of ""let he who is without sin, cast the first stone", or Ecclesiastes 7:20 "For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not."
However I must say if one does not like something why do they need to justify it or explain (why)? They are entitled to have their own opinion! It cuts both ways.
Life is a personal journey. Only you can decide what is best for you. If anyone is sitting around waiting for an approval stamp from everyone in order to be happy then they will never be happy. It's your life. Take the wheel!

Obviously people who oppose it do so on the basis of religious convictions, that includes Judaism, Islam and Christianity, so your question is answered already. People oppose it over their beliefs. The same question can be asked of you, why do you believe what you do and what do you base your beliefs on?
