   What's the best way for a teen to learn to drive in the city?
   
   Is it required for kids to take a class someplace? Can their parents teach them? SHOULD their parents teach them?

   In California, it is required for those under 18 to take a driver's training class and show proof when applying for a driver's license. If  you wait until you turn 18, you are not required to take the class. Yes, parents can teach kids to drive, but this would not qualify for professional training if under 18. Parents should teach  kids to drive, only if they have the knowledge and patients to do so.

   My brother and I learned in the parking lots of a few local parks and in the high school lots on the weekends. We never drove on the streets until we had been practicing for a month. Even then it was only around the neighborhood. Our parents taught us first, mostly the basics. Then we both went to a class. I'm really happy I took the class, otherwise I would have missed out on a lot of information.

   My hubby taught my daughter, 17 years old how to drive in our housing area with less cars on the road. When, she is much familiar with the basic tips, she enrolled for the driving course. At least, she doesn't panic on the first day of driving with the instructor.
