   Do you think poets and or poetry can help change the world?
   
   In ancient times art was always used as a sort of symbol of change, we have experienced a great deal since then as humanity has somewhat evolved using intellect, and cunning wise ways of technological advancement. This question targets the usage of such a mindset, that explores the depths of the imagination using poetry and art combined to help heal this aching planet, and to help humanity find ways to heal as well. Do you believe such a thing is possible today. (If so create a powerful poem, to help in doing such a thing if you can, and as a responsive answer to this very compelling question)

      Certainly. Poets United could end wars, become staunch proponents of world peace, start movements like #PoetsAgainstTerror, #Poets4Yemen etc. Possibilities are endless, just need a visionary at the forefront and magic can happen.
      
      Here's a piece I wrote a few days ago, for example:
      
      
      Poetry for Yemen
      
      With the last breath of the dying
      darling little baby girl she pleads
      to the heart, which is wrenched
      O children of Adam!
      What have you done?
      
      With the last shudder of the chest
      the legless man in his last breath pleads
      to the minds, wrapped in vanity and luxury
      Woe is me, woe is me!
      
      To the oppressor of innocent children
      the orphans, the baby girl, & the legless one
      Fear the Day of Reckoning
      Your time will come!
      
      And when it does, you will cry
      Woe is me, woe is me!
      O children of Adam!
      See what you have done.

   I think that poetry could help some in changing the way  people view  things at times.
   But, you  have to  get people to read and understand what you are trying to say.On Hub Pages it is fine ,we have a good group of people that help us and encourage us but in the real world it is not always that way. Trying to  get those who are close to you  to  read  your poems is not  the easiest thing to do. ,But we keep writing  because  God gives them  to us !

   The smallest, weak, forgotten;
   neglected, all downtrodden.
   Poor, pummeled, rejected;
   Power only, to the elected.

   Needs healing, satisfaction.
   Look inside, mirrored face;
   Restore peace, to this place.
   
   You spirit, burdened, bound.
   Let freedom soar; lost, now found.
   Use power, love, affection,
   Humanity, resurrection.

      Thanks for this poetic format of an answer, I believe you have seen the light, and your poetic verse is truly powerful, lets hope it helps out humanity a bit, because we truly need the help for a real change to come to this world today.

   Yes I do believe that poets and/or poetry may be able to change the world in some form or another.
   Metaphorically, words are like written sword, our pen the sword within our hand... To write words and construct them within a sentence and to create a meaning is to bring forth thought and the further susceptibility to read them.
   If a man were placed in a room, he would be in front of two forms of communication. One, a man holding a gun... and two, a book with notes, letters, poems or stories that support the situation and chosen topic of communication.
   In all honesty, Which do you think he would choose?
   I myself have indeed read a good many and moving textual works that have left me with a long-lasting impression, sometimes as equally so as physical events but the text has left its mark far longer than any physical event has.
   So, looking at it from a different perspective, there are people that find it more impressionable to experience physical things as opposed to textual.
   On a general basis, the answer could be yes and no.
   But on my own and personal solid basis... it is a yes.
   "The words of man can only ring in listened ears but the words of pen and poet could last a lifetime, forever burned within the open mind."
   Because people are endowed with duller senses, it is the speed of thought; of mind, that carry out most of our functions as we analyze everything we encounter. Written words must be felt, heard, tasted, seen, and smelled {theoretically speaking} with the mind so they tend to stick longer and have more meaning if we are forced to think about them as we read them.
   They induce thought and sometimes even change.

   Yes I do. I think most poets/writers write from the heart. I believe that poetry is a form of emotions, past, present and future that one endures.
   
   Usually a writer will write something down the minute they think of it. I know I do.
   This is based on a lot of feeling at the time of thought. We may be out for a walk and find something interesting to write about.
   
   We may find that it is much easier to express our thoughts or feelings in poetry.
   
   If we would like others to read how we feel, poetry may be the easiest, more fun way to allow someone to read into our thoughts, to get your message across without a long drawn out conversation. It also aids us into the world of our imagination.
   Our imagination is our eyes into the souls of our dreams.
   
   Now we see those cue cards ( not sure what they are actually called) the young ones are using on utube to express their feelings, to seek attention, well poetry does the same.
   
   Others may be our inspiration to write a poem. My poems are my experiences, my thoughts and written to hopefully inspire and help in changing the world.
   
   I feel like I was suppose to write what I did, as I have to credit most of my poems to God. He was a big help. The one poem I wrote on ``a new world` is the way God has given me a message to view the new world.
   
   I really believe that every poet or writer as some help from above. Writers are speaking the word of God,  in some ways that they may not even understand themselves.
   
   it is meant to preach to the world.
   
   Jesus used parables in the bible. His words were truth, when asked why he speaks in parables
   Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
   
   So I guess one could feel the same way about poetry, we read and hear, but do we understand. So we try to figure out the mystery behind the author. This alone is an inspiration.
   
   I have written a hub with some of my poems which are entirely credit to above.
   I really feel deep in my heart that the poem I wrote on `the new world` is the way it will be when Jesus returns.

   In the beginning it was the Word and that word carried the power to create a world...
   The power of words comes with alteration or obliteration of previous behavior...It can make a Sinner seek a Savior...
   
   It can Build or Kill, It can Seduce or Produce some of the greatest mind's of our times...
   Poetry is the expressions of the heart, soul and mind combine...
   It can be genuine, it can be fake and still come out great...
   Word have power because they are power...
   When they are released you can have War or Peace...
   You can Rule  nation or fool a nation...
   Word have Power because they are Power...
   Can change a heart, change a mind, and change a nation...

   Yes, Mike. It is a very compelling question. Under Inspirational Poetry, I read a sublime paragraph in response, with some examples of exemplary writers. Beautifully explained, I thought.
   
   The great Spiritual Teachers: Buddha, Christ, Sri Chinmoy, Sri Krishna ..., wrote and spoke in nothing but poetry really, as it is really food for the Soul. Do you know so many thousands of years later, atheists and non-atheists, quote these exalted Souls, knowingly or unknowingly, as their words have come down through the sweep of Centuries.
   
   I won't use Frost, Emerson or Dickenson's examples, as they are already used as benchmarks to serve Souls needing inspirations. Shakespeare wasn't bad either, nor was Blake. Take a look at Keats 'Season of Mist and Mellow Fruitfulness' or Mary Elizabeth Frye's 'Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep.' She has served to heal countless Souls, with this immortal piece.
   
   The Great Mystic Rumi, is said to have written about 60,000 poems and is well know and respected in the West by thousands! Yet he was an early 13th Century mystic. Tagore not only got the Nobel Peace prize for his literature, but his words are displayed on the internet and sung in many Indian homes, both here and abroad. They bring great solace to many.
   
   Meera or Mirabai, was unparalleled in the history of Indian women Seers, and her devotional poems are sung by many to give inspiration and comfort to the Soul. Finally, I hear from many in open Poetry readings and here on the internet, that I am not too bad myself. Take a look at 'When I am Gone, remember Me' or 'When I Depart from This Sleep of Life' (Two Poems) rather in the mold of Rumi or Elizabeth Frye's.

       A threat to humanity is probably the only thing that would unite humanity into solidarity and bring about a need for peaceful cooperation, much as 9/11 did albeit temporarily for national unity in the USA.  The Paris accords found some initial unity.

    Definitely, Poets see things that other people can't see and then write about them. Poetry describes things in such a beautiful and understanding way that people start to realise that the issues in poems should be resolved. If poets tried to take a stand and make the world a better place, I think they can achieve it eventually.
