   Is the United States level of unemployment at a "crisis" level?
   
   As in, is it something that should receive the government and businesses full attention in our current economic climate?

   Yes...The Unemployment level is over 14% if you use the U6 calculations which is often quoted as the real unemployment level.  However, if we used the same methods for calculating unemployment as we did in past years, the rate is in excess of 20%.  Economist John Williams has an interesting site that keeps records of past models and how the data would look if we utilized the same methods....

   This is a crisis in my view.  Today we got a negative GDP print and it's not likely that that Q1 2013 will be much better.  Possibly sliding back into another recession.  The answer to the second part of your question is also Yes.  There are numerous policy responses that would be prudent.  The overriding problem is that there are too many people in DC that think the Govt's role is to create employment.  When in fact the true role of the Gov't is to simply create a hospitable environment for business to flourish, and otherwise get out of the way.  Unfortunately this fact escapes those in the White House and too many in congress.

   The US level of everything is at a crisis level, homelessness, joblessness, financial cliff, lack of health care, foreclosures, murder in school, lack of care for mentally ill,  lack of love and respect for each other.  I could go on and on.
