What was your childhood name and did it affect you, what did it mean or how was it coined?
My sister's childhood name was Dee Dee. That was because that was all I could say when I started talking. Some years later, some children came to the door to ask whether "Dee Dee" was coming out to play. I didn't know who they were talking about until my mother told me that this was my name for my sister when I first started talking. She had taken the name as being her own and told all her friends that this was her name. My mother soon put them right on her "real" name and they were not allowed to call for "dee Dee" again.
Tricia short for Patricia. Then when I was in third grade I decided I needed to be called Pat...I'm sorry now that I made that transition.
I was named Rochelle.
My Mom liked the name "Shelly", but thought that sounded too informal. Her good friend and next-door neighbor couldn't get her mind around "Shelly" and always said "Shella"-- which became my childhood and family nickname.
When I started school in first grade, Mom said my name was "Rochelle"... and it is. I became Rochelle in school . People remembered my name because it was a little different.
