As a child, tween, and/or teen, were YOU told by YOUR parents, teachers, relatives, and/or
other adult authority figures that YOU were HARD TO HANDLE? As a child, you were always getting into some sort of mischief or other. According to them, you are simply defiant. However, you did not see it that way.You believe in testing the limits and being a risk taker. You loved breaking rules, if adults told you to do something, YOU did THE OPPOSITE. As a child, you rode a bike at breakneck speed without a helmet, as a tween, you probably smoked, and/or as a teen, you routinely broke curfew among other things. You believe what you did was NORMAL, not acts of rebellion.
LMAO - adults loved me - but that's really because most of them were unaware that I only behaved myself when I was within direct vision. Otherwise I got into "mischief" a lot and was generally not discovered... til I confessed as an adult for shits and giggles. It's all good. We all have our own style. That's what makes life and people interesting.
I was a very rebellious teen. Drinking, smoking, drugs, etc. I was just an angry person at this point in my life. I look back and feel so badly for what I put my parents through. But, I also think if they were more a part of my life (problems) then I may not have rebelled?
I was a very difficult, selfish, and self-centered teen. I was angry because my mom died and I was living with my aunt and uncle and their way of life was so different.
I didn't drink but I got involved in drugs and if my mouth was open, I was lying. My aunt told me I was the most selfish individual she had ever met and even in my teen anger, that stung me to the core and I am 61 now and it still does.
I outgrew the bad behavior and became a model citizen but some of the old hurts are still there. But...I did not believe I was behaving normally, I knew I was being rebellious and delighted in it. It was as if all bets were off since my mom had died...there were no rules.
I was never considered hard to handle. i was shy but had lots of friends, did not get into trouble After I graduated high school, I experimented with drinking, never did drugs, went on to college. My parents did not give me compliments during my life, as they believed praise gives kids swelled head. That did not help self esteem at that time.

Have any of YOU been told as a child, tween, and/or teen by YOUR parents, teachers, relatives, and/or other adult authority figures that YOU were TOO GOOD? You were the type of child, tween, and/or teen who was either considered quiet/introverted, a little adult, and/or probably were not as...

If you, as a child, teen, or young person "failed", how did your parents approach this"failure"? Were they unforgiving or were they encouraging? I was raised to avoid failure & to see it as a NEGATIVE thing.

As a child growing up, what is the most important or one of the most important things your parents or teachers told you that changed your way of thinking or your life at that time? When I was about 5-6, I was told:"No son, children SHOULD be heard and seen."

I have been reading an older post about merit pay for teachers. In the post some were giving examples of a classroom filled with smart kids with parents who were actively involved compared to a classroom filled with kids who were absent alot and whose parents didn't spend much time at home...

Is poor parenting the reason children don't value education? Are the growing number of absentee parents and uneducated parents the reasons most children in urban schools do not value education?
