How do you deal with a stressful moment?

I always look for the humor in a situation. I can usually find something to laugh at. Laughter helps ease the stress, if only for the moment, that's good enough for me!

I try and find the laughter too. The other things I do are going for a run or brisk walk, shopping for something I don't really want but end up with anyway! and counting. The counting idea came from the doctor when I suffered with panic attacks. its a classic way of getting rid of the stress feeling, the faster you count the better.

Fast counting...I never heard of that trick. Thanks for sharing that tip Nell.

Hmm. A cup of coffee and time out does me a lot of good! Doggies also raise the endorphin levels!

Great ways to chill during a stressful moment. I do like my green or white tea.

Humor is always a good out.  Also swallow, breathe, and walk away from it.  Where are all those little stress balls they used to make and sell?  Maybe they were throwing them instead.

I can't find the stress balls either! I guess we could always make our own...fill a balloon with sand and tie it off. Presto a stress ball.

Like you, I usually counteract stress with humor. I have to be careful not to laugh at an inappropriate moment, though!

Depending on the source and reason for the stress, I also find that listening to certain calming music helps me get back on an even keel. While I normally love music with lyrics, I find that classical instrumentals are more calming during times of stress.

A little chocolate doesn't hurt, either!

Well, sometimes I don't deal with a stressful moment very gracefully! But when I do, I often give myself a "time out." Another thing that works well for me is to do some self-Reiki.

      Self-Reiki?

People are familiar with going to a Reiki practitioner for help. But, it is important as a practitioner is to do regular self-Reiki - a whole treatment can be done. Chronic illness is a great reason to get attuned, at level 1 you can help yourself.

Hi mbwalz, Sounds like your knowledge of Reiki would make a useful hub...just an idea smile

lmao. Can I have a 1m mg pill?  I always try to make others laugh as for some reason I feel they are more important than myself.  My stress relief is to do crafting or planting in the garden, but those days are over.  So I dive into books and writing.  Of course being with my dogs is a huge stress relief

Trying to keep my mind focused on the goals, remind my self to calm down. Laughter? That's how my grandmother always handled situations. Once there was a long line at the check out in a store but a hole in her pocket had caused her change to fall into the deepest part of her coat. As she reached down to get it, she started laughing. The check out male believed she was crying and started asking her over and over getting louder each time "Ma'am, are you okay?". It only caused my grandmother to laugh harder.

Well, Sunshine, since you and I know just about everything about one another.....I don't have to answer this for your info.....but I'll share a bit with your readers...
1st of all....stressful situations are not for babies, whiners or Drama Queens.....as Jack Nicholson would say, "You can't handle the TRUTH!".....which is the basic fact, that cause stress.  You have to be smart enough to be at least AWARE that a situation calls for action and/or a "solution"......so falling apart at the seams, is not an option.
Accept the reality.....THINK, talk to yourself using as much rationalization as possible....deep breaths....remain calm....stay positive if at all possible.....and take 2 of the pills above!  Works like a charm....at least for a while.
HUMOR.....you're talking to the right SFAM.....laughter cures all, when used in the right way, at the right time.....never making less of a dreadful situation.   Use your head, for something besides your flowing shiny locks.....

Being busy is one way that I use to deal with stress. In additional I reflect the good things that have happened in my life and this way I'm able to do away with negative emotions. The other way I use to deal with stress is to actually talk to someone what is bothering me.

I usually get the fight or flight response, so I breathe deeply and decide which one will be more beneficial in the end - usually flight......see ya later!

Seriously, breathing deeply helps keep my cool. The more I say, the worse it gets, so being silent usually helps also. Humor is good, but can make me very sarcastic, and I sometimes stick my foot in my mouth, which makes the situation more stressful.

Deep breathes. If possible, I try to get outdoors and look at everything beautiful that is around me!

I usually try to watch funny youtubers, or comedy shows on tv and try to laugh a good amount every day. Since laughing can keep you healthy, and reduce stress.
