Can I save it all for a rainy day?

I am new to Hub Pages and enjoyed making my first hub.
I did most of what was recommended (video excluded) including adding the earnings options.
So here is my dilemma:  I have earned $0.10 and was wondering what to spend it on or if I should save it and hope for it to accumulate.
And what does the number next to my photo mean?
I hope it isn't people trying to guess my age.

Haha it's definitely not people guessing your age. The number next to your picture is what hubpages.com rates your profile compared to other hubbers. Save the $0.10 for a rainy day wink it should go far. Feel happy that you have even made that much. My total is $0.00 as of today. How did you get AdSense to approve your hubpage?

I applied to Google and Google said, "Welcome aboard!" If they are not approving your account application, you need to take that up with Google.

I already had an adsense account.  I take it from your question that you don't think I am worthy of an account.  How dare you!  smile  FYI making the first $0.01 is the hardest.  smile
I am having fun on this site.
So back to the strange number next to my name is a high number good or bad?
And why rate profiles in the first place?

Congrats that with your first hub you had earned $0.10, I started to earned money after I had started writing 2 months after joined HP. Earned $5.05 with 82 page views, 10 hubs . The number next to your picture is the hubscore, HP rate our profile and hubs and traffic too. My hubscore kept fluctuate from 89 to 94 every day. Takes 100 hubs to reach that score. Good luck!

Seems everyone has a different experience and it all depends on what traffic the hub gets, whether it is interesting or not and a whole lot of other things I have yet to learn.
I just had a 20% increase with earnings shooting up to $0.12  LOL
      Thanks

HP dropped that dime just to hook you in, my friend. Truth is, THEY won't let you have that first dime until you have collected 499 more dimes. The good news is, you only have 499 more hubs to write!
That number next to your photo is kinda like a bobblehead doll settin' on the dashboard of your car. Gives you something to watch bobble up and down while driving HP. Welcome aboard and feel free to visit my many marvelous hubs...often!

Gosh you are doing well! Most people frame that, and show all their houseguests! But as you say, it might be a good idea to save it for a time of dire need - those times will come more and more often as your time here increases! They compare profiles to keep a spirit of envy and competition alive and well among us. It distracts us from the serious business of earning money. After all, who needs it? We write just for the love of writing.

Hi Vicki.  Thanks for your answer. I certainly don't write for the love of writing although I do write on subjects I am interesting in.
I am already envious of your impressive 96!  smile
