No. It takes more than one date to find out if both people share the same values, want the same things for a relationship/marriage, (naturally agree) on how to obtain those things, and last but not least have a (mutual) love, desire, and respect for one another. In order for him or her to be "the one" they must also see (you) as being "the one"! A first date is more about words as oppose to actions!
Most people bend over backwards to "impress" a new person they are attracted to. You ever notice that strangers don't have any "communication problems"? or during the "infatuation phase" no one is saying relationships require "work"? The reason why is because it takes (awhile) for people to reveal their "authentic selves".
You don't really know a person until you observe how they handle the daily ups and downs that come with life. Any conversations you might have on the first date are only in a "hypothetical" sense. The only real thing about a great first date is it makes you want to get to (know) the person better.
No one should start preparing to send out "save the date" notices after (one) date! One man's opinion! :-)

Not in my experience. I didn't think of him as marriage material until after the first year.

Thanks. I agree with the opinion that it takes more time to know the person better than just one date, to see if there is chemistry and compatibility.

It's funny, I have had friends meet girls on first dates and there has been this amazing mutal attraction/connection where both have genuinely believed and even at this early stage they have realised something special is definitely there.

Personally, I would say on the first date you know if there is chemistry there or a 'spark'  or not which is always important and don't need multiple dates to test this out in my experience. The reason I think this is the 1st date is essentially meant to be you as the best version of yourself as both of you make an effort.

Like others say though, spark aside, you need to understand someone on a deeper level seeing them multiple times to really get a feel for them before youd ecide they are 'the one'. Sometimes all looks good on paper but then you delve deeper and decide they are very different from your initial thoughts.
