What is aspartame and it is a good or bad kind of sugar?
I keep on seeing different views about it. What is your opinion about it? Thank you.
Aspartame is a non saccharide artificial sweetener which is approximately 200 times sweeter than sugar. It is held by many to be carginogenic and many side effects are reported. Personally, were I not diabetic I would rather use sugar or honey as a sweetener than aspartame
Aspartame is an artificial sweetner. That means that it was created in a lab to be similarly sweet as sugar. But it is not natural sugar. Personally, I would avoid it. I wrote about it here: http://blissfulwriter.hubpages.com/hub/ … -Aspertame
Aspartame is a Chemical that is made in a lab and is not good for any body. I have also written about it and it's effects: http://wizzley.com/sugar-the-silent-killer/
It's very bad stuff, Alexandria. Try to avoid it at all cost. It is a chemical and artificial sweetener that crosses the blood-brain barrier and wreaks havoc on the body's neurological system. It can even mimic diseases like Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I have written about some bad food additives in this article. Scroll down half way as I have posted a very informative video on aspartame. Opt for Stevia, a natural herb sweetener if you can. Even Splenda is better.

Good answers already, but anything that's been banned by the FDA twice can't be good for health.
If it has been banned then why are they still using it?
Aspartame is derived from phenylinaline, an amino acid, that is able to cross the blood brain barrier. It directly effects the brain, much in the same way as many drugs do. It enhances dopamine, norepinephrine, and adrenaline, and It is very addicting, talk to any one who has tried to quit drinking diet pop. You will experience withdrawals, listlessness, headache, and so forth. Cocaine enhances the same neurotransmitters. For those who are addicted to this artificial sweetner, and trying to go "cold turkey", a useful tidbit would be to increase Tyrosine rich foods, such as almonds, avocados, bannanas, dairy, and pumpkin seeds, or take a Tyrosine supplement. Tyrosine activates the same neurotransmitters, to lessen the withdrawals. More than likely lose weight, as it also activates thyroid hormone, and increases metabolism.
Recent research has stated that artificle sweetners such as aspartame, actually feed fat cells, therefor, it becomes a vicious circle, and a broken promise to those trying to lose weight. Your addicted, and gaining weight. How sad, its to keep you hooked, and buying it. Coca Cola, back in the day, actually had cocaine in it, to keep you drinking it, and addicted. Hence the name Coca Cola.
I am actually allergic to all artifical sweetners, Nutra sweet, and Equal all contain the same thing. Throat, and tongue swell. If you have PKU disease, definitely avoid all of them. Read labels, there are numerous products that contain these sweeteners, and the derivatives.
The choice is yours.
Great information, artist101. Thank you.
You are welcome. Amino acids are necessary for over all health, of the mind, and body, with numerous pathways. When used correctly have abundant healing properties, when used in the wrong way, such as aspartame, they have a negative impact on health
