What do you find irritating in the job applications you receive?
Poor spelling and grammar are usually the top of many people's lists but what other things have you seen in job applications that have put you off the candidate?
Asking for specific days off before you are hired is a real turn-off. Also asking about the amount of vacation time you will be entitled to after 2 months service will, quite probably, sink your chances.
I'd suggest that askign such things is a complete no-no if you want any hope of securing the job.
It's been a long time but let me think. As you mention glaring errors in grammar and spelling really put me off. Also the applicant that limits what hours or days they can work. I would like to assume that someone applying for a job, needs said job and would be willing to work whatever days and hours are available. That is not always the case.
I agree. If you want the job, don't start restricting the times you work before you even have your foot in the door.
At a previous job I used to short list law students for internships/work experience. I was astounded by some of the applications we used to receive - as you say poor spelling and grammar were a big turn off. But some other irritating applications included bad formatting (each line was slightly more right indexed to the last), unprofessional photos (no photo at all is better than a photo of you at a party), and including irrelevant information (um, I don't really care that you won your high school debating competition in grade 10).
Yes, we've seen a lot of things like this too, and sometimes from some very experienced candidates.

I have been out of work for over a year now, and, I am getting very tired of filling out online job applications. I think it is a totally worthless system, with a sole purpose of eliminating more jobs. Where thousands of people may have had to sift through hundreds applications, it can now all be...

I understand using months and years but why do some companies feel the need to ask for a specific day when applying? It's so annoying as I never remember my exact beginning and end dates.

I really have not been too concerned about scores till recently since that darn HubPro was created. I think HubPro is totally done the wrong way. Editing should NOT be done without our consent and should NOT be done IN our hubs. On all the other sites I have written for, editing suggestion were...
