I'm British - does that count as a connection?  Only kidding.  I don't have a personal connection but I visited India last year and was reminded by more than one person that my country previously ruled India.  Made me feel a bit uncomfortable to think about it sometimes as I obviously had nothing to with it but it's crazy when you stop and think about it.

Even so Iammattdoran -  a lot of people don't even know that India was once ruled by the British but it is a very interesting part of history and a lot of people do not know that Queen Victoria bought home with a young Sikh Prince ...

Honestly speaking I have no connection but I do know an old man who told me that he was just watching the protest march by Lala Lajpat Rai in 1929 to boycott Simon Commission and he was just watching the procession to go bye. But the English caught hold of him ( 13 year only boy) and put him in the jail along with other protesters boycotting the Simon Commission. After 1947, all the persons who had been jailed by the British, were declared freedom fighters and got the Medal, Certificate and Pension for life. His sons and daughters got preferred Govt. Jobs, Education and even Gas Agencies.

Yes, I have some family history regarding India.  My mother was born there in 1900 and lived there for, I think, the first thirty years of her life.  She was definitely 'British Raj', her father being an ordinance officer in the Indian Army.  I'm not sure how far the British side of history in India goes, but I'm pretty sure my paternal grandfather ( who I never met) father was also British Raj.

All the uncles, aunties, and cousins on my mother's side lived in India up until the Indian people took over their own country in 1948-49.
