   What causes so many dark-skinned Black women to be deemed negatively in both Black and
   
   non-Black American society?
   Dark-skinned Black women are oftentimes regarded as THE OTHER.  She is considered diametrical opposite to the fair, feminine idea.  She is considered unattractive and unfeminine. Even within the Black community, she is viewed as THE OUTSIDER.  She has been stereotyped the most negatively, especially in media.  She is viewed as unattractive, classless, ghetto, and other highly disparaging pejoratives.

   Personally, I do not see the woman in the picture as anything negative at all.  I think she is beautiful, with a glowing smile, the picture of perfect skin, a happy and contagious personality.  I don't see anything unattractive or unfeminine about this lovely lady.  Her inner beauty sparkles through her glowing friendliness.

      Yes, dark skinned Black women are beautiful. Sadly, they are devalued& denigrated in American society by both the Black & non-Black community. In the documentary DARK GIRLS by Bill Duke, dark skinned Black women stated how they seen as ugly.

      I have a little cousin who is dark-skinned.  It would be a tragedy to pass over her talents because of her skin color.  What a shame that there is so much prejudice.  My children are Spanish, and I have also felt the stares and hatred.

   In this country I think it may be a holdover from slavery times, with a fair amount of Stockholm syndrome thrown it. It's dumb and outdated (not that it was ever valid). The thing is, the same prejudices exist in India, with the Untouchables, who tend to be darker hued, at the bottom of the social ladder. Don't know if it reflects centuries of British rule or not; the whole "Untouchables" notion predates British colonialism. We all seem to be capable of some pretty ridiculous ideas, and it's important to challenge them.

      Spot on analysis.  Dr. Runoko Rashidi made a mention in one of his lectures about the untouchables in India. He indicated that the untouchables are dark-skinned & horrifically treated by other Indians. He called them the Dalit.

   It is a condition of the Brain that affects the Mind. This happens when the Brain goes out of sink to rely on one hemisphere more than the other, usually the Right side that deals with emotions and desires, Some cultures are able to balance the effect by not overly focusing on beauty in the mate selection process. Some cultures function more on desire so they rely on beauty when selecting a mate.
   
   This has resulted in the commodification of beauty. When anything become a commodity desire becomes a target. Over time the targeting of desire has resulted in racial disharmony because a standard for beauty has developed which is that of the European race.
   
   Blacks are more affected because our cultures are broken. Most Black and African cultures today are hybrids of English, French, Spanish, German, and Arab cultures. We now celebrate our mixtures and move away from our true selves because life in a world built on desire is easier to deal with.
   
   I am on on a return journey because I love the Blackness in me.
