Do you compromise art of writing for SEO?
As a writer, with a love for the linking of words and phrases, I sometimes find it difficult to utilize good SEO strategies as sometimes, it ruins the beauty of content! I know this is foolish, as SEO is needed for internet writing. Simple fact. But, am I alone in my lamentation?
I totally suck at SEO and stopped trying to figure it out a long time ago, so I guess not.
Well, from the looks of it, you are an extremely successful hubber, so that answer to me is worth a thousand words! But maybe you are just "a natural" at it?
Depends on your definition of "successful." Am I sleeping on a mattress stuffed with AdSense dollars and cavorting with supermodels? Not even close. But I enjoy Hubbing so I keep doing it.
Ha! "Starving artist" is still quite a noble ideal!
Hi Amie.
You or Freddy aren't on your own. I still look at SEO tutorials and still end up shaking my head in wonder. I still haven't a clue what they are talking about.
I do often wonder when I get a lot of comments saying I've written a great hub, why do I get so few clicks from outside of HP, must be the title or something.
Amie you can sleep sound tonight, as you have at least two hubbers that are on the same level as you are.
LOL Ghaelach
Thank you, Ghaelach - you are always so supportive! I just find it funny that "writers" are bound by SEO, as conventionally, writers are in a way, artists, and SEO is just so... business!!!! I guess in reality, that is just the way of the world!
Forgive my ignorance, but what is SEO? It sounds like something I should know about.
Search Engine Optimization, ie tailoring your writing with the right key words/phrases so search engines pick up on them and send you traffic. Some folks are good at it. Others like me, not so much.
April, SEO is techniques you have to use in your writing if you want to get traffic from what people out there might be "googling." It doesn't hurt to brush up on it, if you are interested in that.
Ah. Thanks. Yeah, most of my hits are from HP or Facebook. Search engines… not so much.
April, SEO or not, you are doing amazing!
If I actually took the time to learn to use SEO I may get some higher scores, but I've given up. When I sit down too write a hub I go with the flow of my thoughts and only worry about if I'm getting my message across, everything is organized, etc.
I do, too (go with the flow of my thoughts)! I think you have to if it doesn't come natural to be quick and direct and to the point. None of which, I am! Sometimes I try to go back later to add in SEO, but it is hard when you like what you wrote!
I suspect that the best SEO writer is a robot, because it doesn't work too well when a human is writing. The concept of it makes sense to me, but I don't want to alter my writing to accommodate it. The worst part of writing is the business side.

I'm officially now my first month into HubPages and loving it; however, I'd like to share with the community some of the observations I've made in the first 30 days. The OpportunityLet me start by saying that I think there is plenty of opportunity for writers here, even post-panda, to become...

Which is the most important for search engine searches: the Hub summary or the first paragraph of the Hub? I thought the summary was most important, but I notice that sometimes searches show the first sentences in the hub. Are both equally important?

Can you be successful writing rich content only while ignoring/spending little time on SEO?There is an abundance of rich content online. However, some writers say they just think of what topics and keywords are popular. Google is downplaying SEO also and emphasizing rich content. How can you...
