What causes some poor people to expect more affluent people to support them and to give them a bette
lifestyle?
There are poor people who expect others to give them a better life, whether it is family members or the government. They seem not to believe in the principle of uplifting and helping themselves.
Very simplified process and timeline: Where do you think the USA sits within this process?
1. Government has done it since the Great Society programs of the 60s.
2. Once it started the 2nd generation had no family role models to show the next generation how to make it through work.
3. After 3 generation s it becomes an expectation.
4. After 4 generation it is like a right, to be supported without earning you own way.
5. People stop believing and relying on God somewhere in there. So you not only have no sense of self reliance but no framework for civil behavior.
6. Once that is lost, you end up like the Romans. They provided Bread and Circuses for the populace to keep them from rioting.
7. No nationals were willing to defend the country, so they hired foreigners and slaves.
8. Eventually the foreigners were doing everything meaningful to make the society function.
9. Revolt occurred from within
10. Then the country fell apart and was invaded and
destroyed from without
11. Then the Dark Ages began.
12. The Dark Ages lasted 1000 years.
Certainly in some countries there is an expectation of education for all as well as hospitalization where and when this becomes necessary.
Not all children born into low income families are dumb. If properly educated they can outshine their parents and go on to live a better life. I see nothing wrong in this. In fact seeing that every child gets an educations seems to me to be the foundations of any democracy.
We cannot always be on top of our game and sickness can hit any one of us at any time. The results of which might lead to someone normally able to take care of themselves needing assistance from the larger community. I see nothing wrong in the larger community giving such assistance.
As has recently been shown especially in the USA a person's fortunes can change over night due to things they have no control over. I have had friends who lost all their super some years ago when the stock market went into free fall. They were able to continue working. If they were too old to work they would have needed assistance for sure. Super should be better protected but it is not. If the government insists we should have it then it should be better safe guarded. Until then the government may have to help people out who find themselves in need thanks to no fault of their own.
Insurance is becoming more and more expensive and it isn't always there for you when you need it. Insurance companies will try it on to get out of paying.
Excellent question...Mainly this is the way society has done for years, perhaps this is why so many welfare recipients are now 2nd and 3rd generation, end results, the learning process is also taught through example. Other countries use this system as a way of controlling their people, from gaining the strength to rebel against their government.. It is a form of manipulation.
There was a governor of Tennessee a number of years ago who tried in vain to use the welfare system as a stepping stone to ending the complete dependency of welfare, and the system appeared to be beneficial, however too many others refused to support his ideas and the plan failed due to lack of co-operation...no one really wants to find a solution, when a Band-Aid will suffice...
Look forward to seeing what others think ...
True ,there are such people, But the bible does say do all you can why you have the power in your hand to do good to others , because we do not own the power and control of our own existence ,we have been given life as a gift, surely he has not withheld that from us, It could be our own test in life in how we view others and how we treat them ,can we really mirror the image of the one who created all things, Or will we hold on to our perception of our own views of right, For certainly God is faithful in his love to us all , the good and bad people ,we receive the sun ,moon ,and rain, and produce grown, regardless yet there are many that will not accept him ,or acknowledge his presence ,and Bad mouth him ,He is the giver of life, Perhaps it is better to leave injustice in Gods hands, We will be better off.
Quite simply, if you don't know how to fix the situation because you lived like that your whole life, then you wouldn't know how the people who are well off got that way. I know someone who thought that all of the government programs were actually paid for by the government. She had no idea that these things were paid for by taxpayers. She thought everything was 'free'. She never considered all the work that went into becoming a doctor or lawyer, so to her, someone who makes that much money should share with her because it's not fair for them to have so much. We should have some sort of community centers in impoverished areas to literally teach people how to achieve and have a certain type of lifestyle, including how they speak, walk, dress, job interview skills, education, including help with FAFSA forms, I'm talking about literally holding someone's hand through the process, not to mention preaching birth control from a young age. My friend had her first baby at 16. One of her friends had 4 by age 20.
Yes. With the world already overpopulated I despair at hearing about some girl having 4 children and no doubt no husband by age 20. As an old American song would imply 'the rich get richer and the poor have children" ain't we got fun.
You are correct in that only a few would benefit, but you have to admit what about those that have done all that you have listed, put years into colleges and are in debt , and what about those who never get the Job with a degree and are jobless truth
According to the economists the world has enough for all. Greed has just gone too far, look at all the idol resources around the world, and the waste.
Over use of the land in the USA and Australia has resulted in the rising salt problem. Check out Ken Burn's Dust Bowl to see what happens when land is abused. Your economists don't understand land. Greed? Too many children. That is also GREED.
Hi there.
There are many factors to consider in regards to your question. The first thing I would consider is how the wealthy obtained their resources. Let's look at history, there has been a lot of blood shed and manipulation of the uneducated or more peaceful people.
I think that all humans should have the right to at least the basic needs. That is just humane and compassionate. I do not think that poor most people, or people with out much material resources expect others to support them. I think that some of the systems we created are so materialist and exploitative that it does a lot of harm to the overall human spirit.
When I read that people now have personal 500 million dollar boats and planes, I begin to wonder at what point do humans say you have enough.
I also agree with ttelle 1971 if people do not know how to fix the situation that they are in should those in society assist them to a certain level of course.
best wishes.
