How would you feel if Nintendo made games for other consoles?
There's been some worrying news about Nintendo in recent times, and many claim it's a harbinger of the company's downfall. In a hypothetical worst case scenario where they had to stop making consoles, how would you feel about seeing the next Mario Kart on Playstation? Would you be angry or overjoyed about Legend of Zelda requiring an Xbox controller?
I'm interested in how you'd feel if Nintendo kept making great games but not on their own consoles, but rather the consoles they once competed with!
Well, if Nintendo ever goes belly up, I merely ask that they go multiplat instead of just becoming exclusives for another system. I do not relish having to get an Xbox of any type for any game, not even Nintendo. I'd buy Nintendo games for the PS3/PS4 though. (Really have not had good experiences in the time that I had an XBOX360).
Also, were it to happen, it's not the first time either. Sega stopped making consoles and started acting exclusively as a video game publisher/developer. Who would have ever thought that Sonic was going to stand alongside Mario?
You know, I'd never thought of SEGA when I asked this question so that was a bit of a "derp", as the young 'uns call it nowadays! But you make some good points, +1 likey! ^^
Nintendo is a surprisingly savvy company. Where others blow through their profits in one way or another, Nintendo has banked a ridiculous amount of 'rainy day' money. Which means their consoles could fail for years before they would start to feel the pinch. And, considering how well the Wii did, I don't see the Wii U being its downfall anymore than the N64 or the GameCube was its downfall.
Having said that, were it ever to happen, I would also prefer that they go multi-platform. They have a very strong catalog of franchises and a skilled development team. So, they could be very profitable surviving on just their games.
I suppose I would feel pretty frustrated as they have been very hit and miss at the moment. Love the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U not so much. If they simply focussed on making great games full of character and for want of a better word, 'joy', then I wouldn't be too unhappy. Whereas in recent years with the Wii and subsequent consoles were in a quite a key position when it came to being the console of choice for younger gamers and families, Sony and Sega have stolen market share with Kinect and PS Move, attracting a similar audience who crave simple, fun, 'pick up and play' entertainment.
As long as the ethos is retained as well as the innovation, I would happily play Nintendo games on non Nintendo platforms.
It would be a sad day however if they ceased to exist from a hardware perspective. Even a Bayonetta 2 exclusive can't save Wii U I doubt.
Honestly it would fix the problem Nintendo has with releasing hardware hardcore gamers aren't crazy about. Maybe Nintendo would be able to concentrate more on software if they didn't have to make their own console. I hope this never happens because Nintendo has been the innovators in creating consoles like the Wii which was the first system with accurate motion control or the DS which was the first handheld with touch controls. I think Nintendo's goals on making innovative consoles are the same things that's hurting their sales. Hopefully this never happens but if it does it might not be such a bad thing for Ninendo fans.

Not just Nintendo, but any of those old consoles? I was just wondering if any of you ever pull them out and play them? Or do you use Emulators and roms?
