Does anyone feel the racial tension more between blacks and whites since Obama took office?
Seriously, I know it is taboo for a white person to even mention this but I feel this is a true statement. First of all, let it be known, I am not an racist because that is the common response I get when I disagree with President Obama's policies. Obama has used the "race" card so often, I feel he has divided this country when this would have been an historical moment in history for him to unite all people. No one wants to challenge Obama in fear to be label a racist especially the media. It makes no sense. Does anyone else agree?
In some cases, there is racial tension; however, in many cases there is a class divide tension. There are successful people who bristle at President Obama's social policies while those who are classified as less successful welcome such policies. The more affluent classes believe that President Obama intend to redistribute income in order in the context that there should be more equitable income.
Many successful people believe that Obama is demonizing and ostracizing the more successful among us while enabling and encouraging those who are not as diligent by the context of his social policies. He believes that the less successful are that way because of societal oppression and it is his intention to correct that by any means necessary.
Thank YOU so much TJ for selecting my answer. It is appreciated in kind.
Racial tension has always been there between Whites and Blacks, has absolutely nothing to do with Obama. The Media may be perpetuating it more that Obama is in office. If anything, I would think the happenings going on in Florida, Zimmerman trial and the countless "stand your ground" incidents that have been happening primarily against Blacks and no one is being held accountable for their actions is creating more tension than anything. Most recently with the retired White Cop shoots a Black man for texting in a movie, now it's coming out that he was in fact texting just minutes before the altercation. The tension has absolutely nothing to do with Obama, in my opinion.
This is one of the many often repeated distortions about both Zimmerman and Stand Your Ground Laws.Zimmerman was not covered by "SYG" and the primary beneficiaries of the law are Blacks defending themselves against criminals.
retief2000, pure baloney. SYG was included in jury instructions in the Zimmerman and Dunn trials and the success rate of SYG invocations is disproportionately higher if you kill a black person. Stop watching FOX News.
I have not felt an increase of tension between blacks and whites since Obama took office, however I have noticed that the zealot among his supporters typically throw out that term "racist" against anyone that dares to be critical of him. While the rest of us congratulate or criticize this President based on our honest opinion of his policies, those who use the racist allegation to silence his critics betray the fact they can only see the color of his skin. Sad and very telling.
Racial tension didn't increase when President Obama was elected, it just threw existing tension into the light. White people have the ability to 'forget' about racism, but minorities do not have the same luxury as it's constantly thrust into their daily lives. Having said that, I've never seen the President 'play the race card'.
Some people want to pretend that horses aren't real and anytime you talk about them they accuse you of playing the unicorn card, which is ridiculous. You not believing in them doesn't mean they don't exist and me talking about them doesn't mean I am playing the unicorn card. Next thing you know we are talking about unicorn tension as if it were a real thing worth being concerned about, but it isn't, it's just the boy who cried unicorn.
Horses do exist and are worth talking about. I'll leave the Very Important Unicorn discussion for FOX News.
I don't think there is anymore tension between black and white races than any other time. It's a far cry from the 1700s or even Jim Crow and 60s eras. Most people understand there will always be political differences between Democrats and Republicans regardless of race.
What some people find offensive is when attacks appear to be a personal nature that have never been put towards any other president. (birth certificate questions, questioning his college GPA, calling him a dictator for using executive powers like all other presidents, communist, or insisting he is Muslim when there is no such proof and even if he were we live in a country that believes in freedom of religion.
In my opinion there is less of a race issue than there is a refusal for compromise on anything between the parties. No other president has ever had to deal with an opposition party that was split up like the Republican/Tea Party. Essentially if Obama is for something then they have to be against it even if they were for it prior to him being elected. For instance Obamacare is basically Romneycare. Both parties had stated in the past we needed an "immigration bill" but now that Obama is in office the support for such a bill has waned.
It's great that we have two different parties but what people really want is for (both) of them to come up with "solutions" to our problems. People are frustrated when it appears the only agenda seems to be to stop the other. One example of this is polls indicate the vast majority of people believe the minimum wage should be raised. When inflation is factored in it's actually less than it was ten years ago.
Lastly does anyone really believe if Obama stepped down from office that a "President Joe Biden" or a "President Hilary Clinton" would not follow the Democrat's agenda? We tend to harp on whomever is sitting in the White House instead of their party. What is best for the country outweighs what is best for a party.
Other than being called racist for any criticism of Obama, despite race having never been brought up in any way?
Naaaahhhhhhhh
Perfect point and I supposed that is the real question. I like to discuss politics and was never a Bush fan either but I feel there is no real discussion with this Administration because people get defensive not because of policy but you do not support Obama because you do not like blacks. Good answer.
Much worse, by blaming whites collectively for everything while denying credit for the good and collectively absolving blacks for anything even when they assault teachers at school, attack whites for not virtue signalling to Black Lives Matter and any other crimes they commit.
