   Are sports worth watching/playing, or have they become "bread and circuses" to a crumbling society?

   Playing sport with friends/family etc, is one of the best things a person can do....It's good for our mental & physical health, & it's got to be good for our soul....Watching sport on the T.V however, has got to be one of the worst things we could be doing....Sport now is just entertainment for the masses to keep them sat at home getting fat, & glued to their T.V....Or another way for the masses to waste their money, so they can worship & fund some greedy millionaire sports stars....I mean how much is being spent on this years world cup?, probably 30/40 Billion Quid while people are starving all over the world....Why do 100,000's of people turn up every week, to watch millionaires play football/baseball etc?....They are "ALL" Brainwashed!lol....I mean what difference does it make who wins the league this year in any sport?, it makes no difference at all to anything real in life....Yet people actually "cry" if their team doesn't win, i find that amazing & very sad to be honest....We're being conditioned to stay at home (in our cell), & watch the T.V where they can continue to brainwash us into buying into all their crap.

   I was going to answer this question but then I read Dave36 answer and he basically hit right on the head.
   I just like to address Laura's comparison of sports and a crumbling society. I would suggest sports or sports teams is far down on the list of this things that are contributing to a crumbling society.

      Good point about sports being way down on the list—there are MANY factors that are affecting our society, not just sports—to me, pro sports are a symptom, and Dave36 has nailed the various scenarios perfectly. Good point—sports is just a symptom.

   To me it depends how much you are into sports. Whether you find a sport which you truly like and believe in. Finally, how serious you think it is after you have watched it a few times.
   When I was in high school, the only sport which caught my interest was soccer. Now that I am out of school golf also seems interesting.
