HubPages support of Revver videos is worthless

    Sad but true...

I'd been having trouble with getting a Revver video to work in the video capsule since it was announced HP added support for that site, so I wrote to admin.  For those of you unfamiliar with Revver, the permalinks for Revver videos happen include the affiliate code of the person who put the video on the site.

Turns out HubPages doesn't support the use of the affiliate links, and while they've made that adjustment so that now those URLs will work and actually show the video, I was informed that I would nonetheless get zero earnings from those views of my videos as HubPages has not set up any revenue sharing with Revver.

Thus, being able to have Revver videos in your Hubs is, quite literally, worthless.  Anyone who was excited about being able to use Revver, you may now officially get unexcited.

What we told you is that we don't support the affiliate aspect of revenue sharing that Revver offers (which includes a 20% revenue share).  We also told you that we may support it in the future.  If you upload your own videos to Revver, to the best of my knowledge you still get the 50/50 split that Revver offers to the people that create content.

Furthermore, if your goal is for us to support Revver affiliate revenue sharing, a few terse emails and then calling us out in the forum really isn't the best approach.

Paul, if you guys (in the furture) support the ads, then how would the revenue be distributed if you upload your own Revver Videos? The 20% or the regular percent from it being your own video?

I'm contemplating uploading my videos that I have on YouTube to Revver, but I am still curious if I would get whatever revenue that Revver provides if I did that.

I'm pretty new to the concept of Revver, so sorry if I asked anything that is common sense.

It looks like to me that for you own videos that are shown on another site with the 20% affiliate share it would break down like this:

    40% for Revver
    40% for the content creator
20% for the site where it is shown

So, on HubPages if you displayed your own video on Revver currently it is:

    50% for Revver
    50% for you

If we support their 20% affiliate program, it would be:

    40% for Revver
40% for you as content creator
12% for you on HubPages (60% of the 20%)
    8% for us (40% of the 20%)

so in effect you'd get 52% instead of the current 50% for your own videos -- not much different.  The real difference would be if you were showing someone else's Revver video on HubPages (where you'd get 12% instead of the current 0%).

Thank you Paul. I just upload my videos to Revver and plan on replacing my YouTube ones once they approve. I think it takes like 24 hours to show after approval or something. I'm not 100%.

Do you think that the ad revenue will one day be supported by HubPages?

Sorry if I misunderstood, but the email I got from Maddie said "The problem was that we are not currently supporting the revenue share aspect of Revver, so while the affiliate links will now work, you won't be getting any revenue from them."

Now, if Maddie hadn't said anything about earnings, I would have presumed that the Revver earnings would've worked as they usually do.  But because she specifically said there would be no earnings, I thought that somehow HubPages had done something that changed the regular referrals for those.

    Relache:

You are correct.  At present, unless you're uploading your own videos to Revver, you are not making any money by placing videos from Revver on HubPages.  As I stated in my emails, the normal affiliate revenue for distributing Revver videos will not work at HubPages, as things are currently set up.  As Paul stated above, and as I stated in my email to you, we are looking into changing that.  If we do decide to include Revver in our affiliate programs, you will enter your ID on the affiliate settings page, as with Ebay or Amazon.

Reread Paul's post above for clarification.

Maddie, what you didn't realize when you told me Revver videos wouldn't earn anything is that the video I was linking up is one of my own hosted on that site.

That's why when you told me Revver videos won't earn anything here I got so unhappy.

I'm sorry, Rae.  It was a misunderstanding.  The "them" i was referring to was the affiliate links mentioned earlier in the sentence.  I don't know if Revver gives you additional revenue for using your affiliate tracker on your own videos in addition to the video upload revenue, but since there was an affiliate tracker in the link you sent me, and that was what had caused the problem (before Paul fixed it), that's what I was addressing.

Maddie, the affiliate tracker is built into the permalink from Revver so whoever grabs it gets that too.  Wherever those videos are embedded or linked, if they are viewed, the creator earns something.

One of my Revver videos which just has a link on one of my Squidoo lenses has gotten over 1500 views in the last year, so I'm anticipating that some decent traffic will come from HubPages given that people can actually view the vids right here.

May I reopen this thread to ask if there have been updates in this area? As a solid user of both hubpages and revver, I would appreciate having the ability to split revenue for revver videos that are not mine.

I don't care with whom I share the revenue, but being able to have revver as an affiliate (similar to amazon or ebay as you said) would be a wonderful thing!
