There can be many good answers and solutions to this question. But why not look at the very genesis of the question itself.

What I mean to say is that why have the stress at the first place?

Stress mainly comes from worry, fear of unknown and gap between rewards and expectations. So let's try to tackle the causes rather than deal with symptoms.

There are myriad ways to relieve, even eliminate stress.  Take and luxuriate in a nice jasmin scented bath for 1 1/2 hours while listening to some romantic or classical music on a cd machine.   One can take intense exercise while listening to some hard rock.    Shopping or least window shopping is excellent way to relieve stress.   One can also pursue artistic and creative interests such as writing, painting, and/or sketching.

One can listen to inspirational cds and/or dvds from great speakers such as the late Leo Buscaglia.  I find his lectures, particularly on love to be quite uplifting and soothing.  Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has many lectures on spirituality and how stress can be relieved.    One can also travel and go to a different place to relieve stress and get a new perspective on life.

One can meditate to relieve stress.   Spiritual retreats are good ways to relieve stress and to become more spiritually attuned to the universe/God.   Spiritual books, cds, and dvds are great listening and educational tools as to how to relieve stress.

I agree with the Dalai Lama, sleep is the best meditation. When you sleep, you let go of problems and forget the world. Another good method is the Zen approach. All problems are caused by thoughts. Zen says stop the thoughts. Become empty and all problems, suffering and the world disappears. Each person is creating their own world with their imagination. In reality, nothing is happening but their thoughts. You can change the thoughts and create another world or you can drop all thoughts and instantly free yourself. You are only agitated by your own thoughts and feelings. If you can leave yourself alone or just love yourself, you will become free. You can also sing or chant a good mantra regularly and become blissful at all times. Prayer is also very effective. Any method of letting go of negative thoughts will work. Watch a good movie, enjoy your mate or your friends and family, or just go do something fun. Get out of that mental state and enter a new one.

Sundeep gave a cool answer. You need to look for the 'stressors.' In my case, I know what they are so perhaps you know this also.

Meditation augments the inner voice which then points you to the problem/s. There is no one way to do this, but you can use relaxing music, breathing exercises, visualisations ... I have a Hub on this and I can also send you links to great music.

I told a girl recently that she had to be kind to mankind. This startled her. It had not fitted into her thinking of what she had to do. Let us quote St. Paul:
"How can you love God whom you cannot see, unless you love man whom you can see?"

All you need to know is that Cosmic forces follow an unerringly accurate pattern. Every action will produce an equal reaction; every cause an equal effect. As we sow, so we shall reap. Do unto others, what you wish done unto yourself.

Finally, you may be a beautiful soul and need not have done anything amiss. God is in charge of His own play. Simply follow your intuition and pray with intensity. With patience, the Universe will teach you all you need to know. Cheers.

Mindfulness techniques work pretty good. It takes practice and paying attention or noticing 'within the moment'.

Depends on what the stress is related most to in your everyday.  Work, co-worker issues, Boss issues, lack of a job, terminal illness or other health issues, that can pressure you and give no peace of mind or rest to you in your life..for the moment.  Not sure what other people do about stress, but I try to 'focus' on what is most important to me and my life at that particular moment.  Drink a lot of tea, or have a small cup of wine, read a Bible verse or watch a Christian program, whatever is on, like The 700 Club or watch any of the great Pastors on the air at the time.  It helps and its uplifting..
