Are people still sold into bondage for money, for power, for revenge, etc. right now?

This will have seemed to be a naive question.  But by even raising this question we will have provided some service by causing others to think what responsibility we ourselves have for our world's sweatshops, white slavery, child soldiers, victims held for ransom, and the marginalized of our own societies.  Deep down we know we bear a responsibility to write, to stand up, to speak out, to goad others out of their complacency and into any action which can make even a small difference to such perpetrators and their victims.  Don't we?

What about our responsibility in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria just to quote few of them? We poison civilian societies with our radioactivity (Libya and Iraq are still giving birth to malformed children), we gazed children in Syria pretending that Al Assad did it as if he was not accountable to the Syrian people... Until now, I'm pretty sure that the majority of the American people still think that Iran is the enemy whereas elements that flirted with the CIA are bombing, killing American civilians, are found with military arsenals and nobody finds it odd.
We are our governments. They kill in our name. When special are sent in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Somalia... we implicitly give them the green light. I'm, personally, tired of my government's wrongdoings, what can I do? I've decided NOT TO VOTE for the next elections since whatever party has the same agenda, their interests. People still think that Clinton will be better than Obama. What does make people think that a woman will resist lobbyists? By lying in the Benghazi affair only showed who she REALLY was. Enough of my ranting.

Why not? Both set of human qualities have always existed, are prevalent and shall continue till eternity.

While one one hand the mankind has been victim of cruelty and violence for the lust of money, power and women, there has been a display of great human qualities like compassion,  care and non violence by innumerable people and organisations. For example,  Mother Teresa,  Mahatma Gandhi etc.

Nature is a play of opposite forces.

When I first read your question, I thought "is this man for real?".  Then I read the details, and realized we think alike.

These days, hardly a day goes by when I am not signing some petition somewhere to uphold human rights, and this is something I have also written about on HubPages and Squidoo, both articles and poetry.

Good for us (and them).  They are too  easily forgotten.
