Everything a human being does is either because of love or the lack of it. I believe this. Do you?

I disagree to an extent.   When one makes sacrifices for their families and childen, those are done out of love.  The little things one does for their family:  cooking, working at a full time job in or out of the home, a man working two jobs to support his family-all this is done out of love.  These duties may involve a lot of stress but the motivating factor is love.

On the opposite end are selfish behaviors.  People who cheat on their partners, who are abusive, who are chronically unemployed, who neglect their children and fall into addictions.  These people engage in these habits because there is no love for their family.  I might make an exception for an addiction because it is a genetic predisposition in many cases that starts off inadvertently but, if the addict chooses the addiction over his family and refuses to get help, then his decision is due to selfishness not love.

However, there are people who do good things for others, not out of love or lack of love but out of simple duty.  I grew up abused by my mother so, while I do not hate her, my feelings toward her are total indifference.  We do not keep in contact often.  The few times I speak with her, it is out of duty only.  I am her only child.  If I had other siblings, I'd slough off the duty to them.  If she becomes seriously ill, I won't be a caretaker but I will ensure she is placed in a nice facility.  These things I would do out of common decency, not out of love.

My father and I were not close when I was a child.   Our parents were divorced when I was young and I rarely saw him.  We communicate every so often but I do not view him as a father, more as a family acquaintance.  Two years ago, he had open heart surgery.  I was not the least bit concerned and showed up at the hospital late.  Last year, he had double knee replacement and the only reason why I visited him daily at the hospital was because my cousin, who I love dearly, asked that I do so as I was the only family member at the time who could visit him.  But these hospital visits were not performed out of love but out of duty only.  Sometimes that has to be enough.

      Everything. Everything we do.
You're indifferent to your mom because she abused you. You didn't get the love you deserved. She hurt you.
When a child isn't loved by its mother It changes how they see themselves and the world.
      There are common saying

Yes, I do believe this because in my opinion when you are lacking love from a parent, especially a father figure, you may turn to someone to fullfill that emptiness within your relationship.

No, I don't believe this. Here's why: Though many of the actions that humans do toward one another are motivated by what we call "love," humans do things that are just a result of pure survival instincts. For example, human beings search for food and water, hoard resources, seek shelter, and sexually reproduce. None of those things have to do with love. It's about our evolutionary instinct for survival.

As the great philosopher Alan Watts said most people do today only what they did yesterday, & they basically become a puppet of their past a dog wagged by it's tale....The answer to your question as to why people do what they do can only be answered by yourself, & to do it just ask yourself why you do the things that you do....Your answer is the same answer as theirs is, but will probably take many months to fully understand it....I'll give you an example of what i mean: Any time anyone was mean or offensive to you in your past they we're only (without knowing it) acting out their character, that there creating in their conscious mind which is only their life story so far..Those kinds of people's character won't change over the years apart from getting worse, but they can't change because their now identified as their conscious mind only (life story so far)..So we should look at our own character & see if we're building a real person which wants to learn & grow, or a none self conscious mind identified emotionally led character moved only by our past, & see which is deciding our decisions..Something like that anyway!lol..

Lol. I understand. I'll put it simply.
      We are born.
      We are simply awareness.
Then we are all labled, I.e, black, white, poor, smart, boy or girl.
If no one told you you were a boy and what's socially acceptable, how would you know?

      You wouldn't. Y

Yes were born as pure awareness, & then "other" people slap various labels on us..If were not careful we can identify then become the very labels, that "other" people slap on us..The classic example is racism, which is just brainwashing..A label.
