What do you believe the difference is between a contract and a covenant?
A contract implies an agreement based on a business standpoint, whereas a covenant implies an agreement based on an ideological standpoint.
At least, that's how I've always looked at it.
With a contract, if one agreeing party does something in violation of the contract then it is considered broken. The whole contract becomes null and void. Basically the signers of a contract agree to hold up their ends as long as the other signatories hold up theirs too.
With a covenant, both parties agree to hold up their ends regardless of whether the other party keeps their part of the agreement. A violation of a covenant by one party doesn’t matter as far as the other party’s responsibility to continue to do what they agreed to do.
A bit like 'fear' and 'Love.' Some still feel that we should fear God, but more and more are associating with the word 'Love.'
Contract seems more base, more business-like. It is an agreement which is binding. A Covenant usually reaches up to something, like the Divine and is not binding. 'Do this or else.' Covenants can also be legally applied to Will's and other matters, but generally it is a higher, more comforting word in relationship to the Divine.

Does Israel's claim that God gave them the whole land of Israel override the various declarations by the United Nations that their actions are illegal? Do you believe...

Believers, tell me precisely -without quoting c/v- what covenant is.Why am I requesting it?I personally have found many believers who do not understand what covenant truly is, means and how to apply it. Perhaps this forum will help clear up some of the fog.James.

.......in terms of behaviours and activities?I've just read a hub by someone talking about the old Chestnut that not all who call themselves Christian are going to heaven citing Jesus "Not all who cry Lord will enter the Kingdom......." I suppose this is connected to Emile's OP asking why...
