I certainly don't take it literally. There's some very strange and screwed up information in the bible but I do think there are also many words of wisdom in there which certainly makes me wonder who would have had that kind of wisdom so long ago. I think a lot of it has been skewed, perhaps intentionally.

I don't take it (literally). I believe it does contain valuable lessons through parables as well as offer some insight into human behavior.
Do I believe Samson killed (1000 men) with the jawbone of a donkey?
Do I believe God created foreign languages due to Tower of Babel?
Do I believe Adam lived to be  930 years?
Do I believe Noah was 500 years old when he became a father?
Do I believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old?
My answer is (NO) to these and many other assertions contained in the bible. However I do believe one can find inspirational aspects within it and a measure of comfort. I don't bash people who do believe "everything" in it. To each his/her own. Live and let live. smile

A mix. Some things are literal; some are metaphorical; and some are other forms of wisdom.

The Kabbalists say they wrote the Bible's first 5 books in a code called the Language of Branches. Therefore, none of those 5 books can be taken at all literally. They are stories to evoke spiritual feelings which guide us toward awakening.

There are many layers of wisdom. Fifteen years ago, I discovered the Kabbalists' "Tree of life" matrix embedded in two chapters of Genesis.
