Do we work to live, or work for our government to live?
It starts when we are little..we get programmed to think about the future in terms of our career paths. It puts pressure and stress on young shoulders that we have to achieve greatness to be able to partake in the opportunities life has to offer.
On the other hand we have for example politicians who master the art form of deception and false given hope to nations. These groups of people sit there and reap money from our pockets. 'They put this back into things beneficial for us' - some may well say. However a report says the US are expected to spend between $620-$661 on nuclear weapons.
But they’’re not for the US alone, but I think they are also for our allies
From the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Budget: An Overview
The United States maintains a large and diverse nuclear arsenal to deter potential adversaries and to assure U.S. allies and other security partners.
The United States will spend at least $179 billion over the nine fiscal years of 2010-2018 on its nuclear arsenal, averaging $20 billion per year, with costs increasing from $16 billion to $25 billion per year over that timeframe.
This estimate by no means, however, includes the full costs of maintaining America's nuclear deterrent. The $179 billion includes most of the direct costs of nuclear weapons and strategic launchers, such as missiles and submarines, as well as a majority of the costs of military personnel responsible for maintaining, operating, and executing nuclear missions. This estimate, however, excludes many other essential functions directly related to nuclear operations, because those numbers are not readily identified in current budget documents. Moreover, these costs include no money for the eventual retirement of these systems, or support for veteran pensions or healthcare.
It may sound awful, but with other countries having Nuclear weapons, we need them.
Nuclear deterrent? What the world needs is a deterrent against capitalism, government, and stupidity. Nobody's going to "blow up" the United States because all parties concerned have a vested interest in this country. Who's going to blow up their own piggy bank? I suggest that anyone who believes in the myth of terrorism and nuclear threats should read , at least 5 times, "The Emperors New Clothes" by Hans Christian Anderson.
The U.S. is a very rich nation when compared to most of the world.
It's been reported Americans throw away nearly half their food every year. That's the equivalent of $165 billion each year according to a Natural Resources Defense Council report that came out in 2012.
Lots of people in America value the right to bare arms. They also feel safer believing we have more nuclear weapons and the best trained military on earth. They believe peace comes through strength.
Having said that everyone has a gripe about how their tax dollars are being spent on "something" they (personally) do not approve of.
However you'd be hard pressed to find many people who want to cut defense spending in light of the attacks of 9/11 and the barrage of terrorist threats popping up around the world.
At a very basic level, most everything we do is reliant on helping others. Engineers design systems and structures to make life easier, faster, more comfortable for other people. Journalists work to gather and disseminate information so other people can understand their world. Pilots work long and continuous legs to get people to work, families, and vacations. Teachers educate students so they have the skills to navigate their world. It's very difficult to name a dedication that is not founded in serving others to some degree. I suppose we both work to live and work to help others live, a concept government was founded on.

What other purpose does this serve but to kill people? The US and...

How serious and immediate is a nuclear threat from Iran? What should we do about it? Some of the same hawks who helped talk us into invading Iraq are coming out of the woodwork and saying that a nuclear Iran is intolerable and something must be done to prevent it from happening. A timely and...
