   Do you know your life theme and life purpose?  When we are born, there is a life theme whether it is
   
   success, facing one's fears, and/or learning kindness.  We also have a life purpose whether it is fame, being a husband/wife, and/or making the world a better place through self-sacrifice.

   I do not believe in a life theme or a purpose.  However, I do believe everything is destined to be.  I am a determinist, which means I believe everything is determined wholly by its effects.  If this is so, then everything must be destined to be based upon the causes that were previously in place.  This state of the universe is caused by the last state of the universe.

   I'm not sure there is life purpose or theme.  One thing I've noticed many times is once a person finds their 'life purpose' they seem to then look for another because the previous one is finished!.  I like Chase's comments re determinism, cause and effect. This life purpose is a result of past life experiences. Interesting how happiness is not what one does, but comes by the nature of being, so finding purpose can be a distraction.  I've often heard people say "if only I knew what my purpose was" as if believing it is the key to their happiness.  It isn't.  Or you could say purpose is finding the essence of yourself, and in so doing, you BE.

   I like both Chase's and Jewel's comment on this question... Jewel's 'so finding purpose can be a distraction' is especially true, and practical
   
   but possibly there's always a wider context... I think it just comes down to relaxing a bit, letting go and not always grasping for a reason for things; and then, in that moment of being still, it becomes apparent that there is a purpose to our lives, a wider context...
   
   did I just contradict myself?? :-))

   A most interesting question, Grace.   You do manage to tap into the very essence of life!
   My own life needs a continual sense of purpose.  What it happens to be at any one time mostly tries to satisfy my emotions, my mental energy, what inspires me..... or just life's essentials, like finding good company, having the right food in my belly.
   However, one of the most wonderful, enjoyable things of life, for me, is seeing a young person find his or her vacation.   
   One such person is Gert van Hoef, a young organist of the Netherlands. 
   Please, anyone, do simply use your search engine and look/listen to some of his performances.   I have just been listening for the past 2 hours.  He enthralls me!   If you can, listen with a good pair of headphones.   
   And then tell me you are not also uplifted by his talent.   
   It gives me inspiration and joy, like this is what life is meant to be for.
