   I think that if you read more books you'll become more prepared for success, yes. Reading in general can help improve your all round knowledge of a language to begin with and that has to be a positive. If you're studying a specific topic then again reading can enhance your chances of a better understanding of that topic. Different authors for example may give differing views on that topic - the more you read the more you'll be able to come to an intelligent conclusion.
   
   I once worked with an extremely stubborn yet practical man. He worked outdoors with machines most days and knew lots and lots about these machines. When we were told by the management that we would all have to study more and go no training days to college, he wasn't very happy! He preferred to get his hands dirty outside and not sit down inside reading books all day! But he changed his tune once he got over the mental barrier - he started to read lots of books about machinery and the land. After a few months he was able to apply his new found knowledge to his job and went from strength to strength!

   Yes - reading is a great way to become more successful in a writing career or any path one chooses.
   
   I have been an avid reader since I was a kid. I learned a lot about so many things and life in general. That is how I found my forte' and style in writing - by reading and studying the masters of the past (Wilde, Yeats, Shakespeare, Poe, Frost, etc.)
   
   I read every day to my kids when they were little and by the time they were three they could actually read for themselves, which is phenomenal in my opinion. They both were very good readers when they started kindergarten and have not stopped. They are both very intelligent and very successful.

      The people you mentioned were definitely the stalwarts of literature and reading stories to children is a great way of developing their brain, it helps in the formation of new synaptic connections. You must have done your part very well.

   I agree to a certain extent but not fully. Theoretical wisdom is good to entail, but shaping it into a pragmatic approach is where the eporium of success opens. Someone has nicely said, "One impulse from a vernal wood may teach you more of a man... of moral, evil and of good than all the sages can. Enough of science and enough of art, close up these barren leaves. Come forth and bring with a heart that watches and receives." Most of the things which I have learned are due to the experiences and the people I've come across. Books can teach but the morals and ethics we need in order to have a successful life are gained from the people we meet and the experiences we witness (especially the struggles which one overcomes).
