Why do you think we are seeing more and more people turning to ancient religions?

The modern world is seeing more and more people return to pagan and religions and a belief that herbal remedies and spells are best medical practice. In addition many younger Christians are leaving contemporary churches for more traditional churches, like the Roman Catholic Church, what are your theories on why this is?

The reason "..more and more people are turning to ancient religions" is because "religion," has not taught TRUTH when "interpreting" Bible and therefore the FULLNESS of HIS POWER can and will not be realized!

I have seen one raised from the dead, miracles, healings, individuals speaking in tongues, witnessed those being filled with the Holy Spirit (and they aren't quiet.  How can one be when the Power of God is upon you?), and much more!  They are not "taught" to "Walk in the Spirit" as indicated in Romans Chapter 8 and Galatians 5:17 which says "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other, SO THAT YE CANNOT DO THE THING THAT YE WOULD."  Did you hear that "sheep?"  We could "DO THINGS" as mentioned above!

Did Jesus not say in John 14:12 (since He was on earth a short period but sent Holy Spirit to "help us,") "...He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he DO ALSO; and GREATER WORKS than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father."  Did he not send us a "Comforter" (Holy Spirit) to "DO THESE THINGS" AND "GREATER" when He "Went to His Father?"  Is it a LIE?  It's in Scripture!  Either it is a LIE or those who don't believe is not a "believer!"

With "no action" or "proof" of His Power, people are "turning to ancient religions" or "anything" they can ("carnally") see, touch, or feel which satisfies their "reasoning and logic!"

Return to the Roman Catholic Church?  Organized religion that "the world" has concluded is right and do not study HIS WORD for themselves as "lost sheep" do!  As you know, if "sheep" sees another jump from cliff, they all follow!  And so it is with "religion!"  They all follow without "STUDYING" (II Timothy 2:15)!

Apparently, in the "eyes" of "religion," GOD is DEAD; otherwise, sheep would "receive the "gift" of the Holy Spirit which is the POWER of GOD and "DO THING" as mentioned above!

"DO THINGS!"  Have you heard of "THINGS DONE" in the Roman Catholic Church?  It wasn't n news!  Any priest raise the dead, heal the sick, open eyes of blind, etc. as JESUS did?  What's wrong?  THINK, "sheep!" Have you seen @ ur church/belief?

Or perhaps they turn from Christianity, because they are promised miracles and no miracles happen for them, so they seek the next religion hoping to find the miracle there. Only one miracle should be focused upon and that is the resurrection of Jesus

      Norine,

"Greater works" means carrying the gospel to the ends of the earth. It does not mean miracles. A study of the greek word ergon 2041 reveals the context. You shout study! yet you add your own eisegesis to Scripture.

Kris: They aren't "taught" how to exercise their "faith" for POWER & why no "miracles!"  Miracles outdated!

P&N: So "miracles" are outdated? I thought "HE (Jesus Christ) is the same yesterday, today & forever" (Heb 13:8)?  See, why ppl

      Norine,

Again, you twist more Scripture out of context Hebrews13:8 is about faith. Jesus is unchangeable in his faithfulness. You are cherry-picking and adding your own meaning to the verses. Read the previous verse and your error becomes obvious.

      ???
Mal 3:6 is saying that God performs his promises, and effectually disposes of the allegation in 2:17 that He put no difference between the evil and the good. The great principles of right and wrong never change; they are as everlasting.

There are people who have a sense of spiritual anomie.  They contend that they are psychologically, even psychically adrift in this increasingly postmodern culture.  They furthermore contend that there is a strong correlation between this modernity and instability.  They yearn for the more ancient and/or more traditionally based religions which they feel will give them a strong sense of stability.

They see that these religions have a history.  They see such history and tradition as giving them comfort in these postmodern, precarious times when so much is changing.  They want something that is a bulwark and/or an anchor against such ever changing times.  They want a religion which demonstrates a high level of reliability whether it is the ancient pagan religions or a more traditional and/or orthodox form of modern religions.

One of the things I enjoy about the Lutheran Church is that we follow traditions that are hundreds if not thousands of years old. It is good to know that these traditions have stood the test of time and also that these traditions connect us tothepast

They were baptized into the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit..I thought this would be understood. I joined the LCMS because of how Christ centered they are. Everything they do points us to the work of Jesus on the cross.

People need religious and spiritual beliefs and practices. Its natural. Otherwise they can't fill the real existential void we experience as humans. A society without religion is a bland McCulture of gangsta chic, money, porn and hollywood gossip.

I think for some, it's also a call to return to nature. Especially when we stop and look at how we're treating the planet we live on - practicing a pagan or nature based faith reconnects one with the earth and the cycles of the seasons and our place in it all.

During the time of the ancient religions, people live what they believed, there were no need for billion dollar edifices and corrupt figure heads. In a nutshell people are tired of the BS. Remember Jim Baker, Tammy Faye, Jimmy Swaggart.

End times prophecy. The Bible warns us that there will be a falling away from the faith, wars, famine, false prophets, disease, just to name a few. We are advised over and over in scripture that these things MUST take place as we head toward the final judgement of Revelation. It only takes a few minutes watching the news to see that these things are in fact taking place. If you look back at just the last 30 years, it's hard to deny that the human race has become more and more depraved. Acts of violence are up. Disease is up. Armed conflicts are too numerous to count. Not only are people turning to ancient religions, they are turning to things like narcissism, sex, and violence as their new gods.

I was talking to a girl recently who told me that she prays to the universe. I told her that she should consider cutting out the middleman and pray directly to God since he's the one who made the universe.

Scripture WILL BE "fulfilled!"  Why it'd behoove 1 to "STUDY" & forget "tradition" & "teachings!"  STUDY for SELF asking Holy Spirit for "revelation" of HIS WORD!  ONLY way to be saved!  Consider Galatians 1:6-9!
